many of us complained about the high living cost in SG..the lack of freedom of speech..the GST..yada yada yada..but have we ever wondered, how are we compared to our immediate neighbours?

In our region, or even in the whole of asia..probably we are the country with the most stable environment..low crime rates etc..

save for the paid-out-of-the-world ministers, i think our low-mid level civil servants are paid better that our neighbours(even if you compared dollar to dollar, without currency conversion), and the job they did is better..

one prime example is we dun get crappy politicians that shoot their mouth off without thinking of the consequences..our govt agencies are well integrated with each other, unlike up north, tourism ministry and customs and immigration didn't even communicate on the RM20 surcharge..and we can go home late into the night taking public transport without the fear of being robbed or raped..our SAF is the best equipped in the region..tell me which neighboring country has got the means to buy F-16s, F-15s, Apaches, MBTs, submarines and to keep it operational 24/7 without it ending up as scrap metals sitting in a hangar..

The prime candidate for SGporeans to migrate to is Australia..but think again..their income tax is sky high..just GST itself is 10%..more info on their income tax pls go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Income_tax_in_Australia. any further, you need to have the money to migrate in the first place..

And for chinese(no offense to other races), i think SG is the best place for us to stay..western countries despise us Asians, Malaysia and Indonesia lagi worse..China? forget about it..Taiwan is on the constant threat of war with China..

True, our govt may not be the best..but i think they are one of the best around..but there are definitely rooms for improvements in the areas of having the "human touch" so to say..

agree half half...

one thing about sg is we will forever be slaves, us and our children. not balanced at all. most of the well to do already sent their children overseas, dont come back. dont worry about our jobs, FT can take over them and sg economy will still be sound.

to me the citizenship factor is lost liao. and like most other sgreans if we have few million we wont stay here either. sg to me is for earning $, too stressed.

everywhere we will be slave..just how bad is the extent of 'slavery'..in SG, we are taxed to death..but we garment use the money better than what other countries in our region do..our roads are well marked and well paved..potholes are covered up almost immediately after discovery..

down under, once your income hit 6k per yr, you're taxed..in SG, it's 20k..

and if you earn more than 150k there, you'll be taxed $47,100 plus 45cents for each $1 over $150,000..now that's ALOT of money..

there will be pros and cons everywhere..it's up to individual to decide how good or bad it is..

it takes alot of sacrifice to go overseas, apart from money itself. a new lifestyle, new ways and the likes. but its good to get exposure rather than to stay cocooned in our little spore
