haha..ok, i aint that observant about the film industry practices though.

but i think it goes to show the americans aren't as great as pple think them to be.

Enron and Worldcom didn't happen in america by chance. that's because there are a few bright people able to manipulate the majority dumb ones

Well, they are the ones who invented TV remotes, microwave ovens, fast foods, segways and internal combustion engines for cars... [;)]

Why would this seem like a surprise to anyone? [laugh]

Yet they still "lead" the world in military might, science, commerce etc. What good does it do us to look down on the Americans? (or any other race/nation for that matter). We should use this and reflect on ourselves, with our superior Asian brain power [scholar] and work ethic, why aren't we leaders of men? [thumbsup]

bush is a real life example....

and he's not just one exception.

all my colleagues, my wife colleagues who work closely with a lot of americans experienced that.

the smarter americans we have worked with happen to be of asian descent or are the top management of the company (which aint fair representations of the average americans). i know a lot of pple may not agree with me and claim these are one-off incidences. but i have seen enough to think these are not merely exceptions.

i'm workin in a american company and they are pretty hardworkin here..

come very early ..leave pretty late .. and i've also seen the shut down of a few factories in states.. and it hurts them alot till i was saddened too. (a few operators were wondering how they could get through christmas at that time) .. [sweatdrop]

so that might have woken many of them up to the competition already..

i have also come across hardworking americans but unfortunately this person work late because she wasn't working smart. many times she got loss in what she is doing an ask me to help reconcile.

the thing is that those things she needed my help is so basic and simple that i think the late working hours are all her undoing.

and she's not the only one that's not working smart. for instance, the type of request i get from their american auditors, gave me a very idea how smart are these people.

you should have also heard of the Sarbanes Oxley since you are from american firm. Although it is a good redress for the aftermath of Enron and Worldcom, I am afraid it is an overreaction and overkill that shows that American idealogy are quite dislodged from the reality. in fact, recent articles from the CFO magazine supports my view. A lot of USA listed companies are pulling out of stock exchanges in the USA due to the prohibitive cost and less than justified benefits of implementing and maintaining the Sarbanes Oxley. Good controls does not mean doing things rigidly and prohibitively.

ha.. quite true for that example.. [sweatdrop]

coz i'm in a manufacturin area and i had to see their mentality changed due to competition and basically not new american business sense: if it earns profit why not? They lost that sense of productivity and profit sense during this early decade and the last one , so some stuff in that country still needs a lota improvement.. but once they realised and really startin to pull back (abeit a long time maybe) .. why not ?

its still good for the world's economy.. [flowerface]

yeah of course. i am not against earning american money.

it is more like telling myself don't be overawed by the american might. we are just as good, or even better than them.

the only reason why they control so many things in the world is because they had a headstart and a good start.

yup.. we are just as good.. and have caught up abit already.. (i hope)..

but they startin to feel the heat so lets see what they do to pull away.. we can learn..

of course , they will be a consensus of preferential treatment for them(SPGs? [flowerface] ) so lets keep better ourselves.. and see we can close the gap further.. [thumbsup]
