M+S tyres have diff compound and temp ratings are not meant to be used as full time summer tyres

and as abba has highlighted, excess heat buildup and their softer sidewalls can cause blowups

According to

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/TireSa...t/brochure.html

M+S

The "M+S" or "M/S" just indicates that the tire has some mud and snow capability. Most radial tires have these markings; hence, they have some mud and snow capability.

Tires designed for use in severe snow conditions generally have tread patterns, structure and materials to give superior performance. These tires are marked with the "M+S" designation plus a mountain/snowflake symbol.

All tyres are designed for specific applications, the construction are specific to each application.

As you will not use WRC gravel tyres on Nurburgring race track, neither will U use grooved slicks on even the Tarmac section for WRC. Neither will you use full wets on a dry track, as you will not use grooved slick on a soaked wet track.

You won't wear a tank top in -5C winter weather, so you will not wear winter jacket and gloved in sweltering 40C summer heat. [;)]

Well, that Camry uncle may really need some "mud" capability in his tyre. Would you bring your fav RS-2/ SO-3/ A048 to a construction site or to some country road in M'sia? It will probably kill my spine b4 the tyre burst :)

I fact I heard that some M+S marked tyres are just the thread pattern/void area only, using regular compound. Thats why they came up with the additional mountain/snowflake symbol to indicate those special ones that has gone through snow and mountain testing certification.

And finally, we are not talking about track cars, it is just a Camry.

All due respect to my fatherland, I am also sceptical about China made products nowadays......if they pump cardboard into a bark poa....imagine what else they can do !

Maybe if it sits behind a well known brand, I might consider. BTW, wanted to buy a Firenza tire from Stamford but when I found out it is made in China, I pass !

Firenza made in China, they hide the tiny Made in China in the area that sits on the bead of the rim, so once installed U can't see it. Very very sneaky, I should have taken a pix of it

yalor , couldn't find anything on the web but manage to find their local distributor here:

http://www.globaltraco.com/about.asp

and after further poking around , here's some interesting information

"The Indonesian brand GT Radial was ranked No 1 for the "best value tire", by the American auto magazine, Motor, in July 2006. Created in 1951, the small bike tires factory has become the largest tire manufacturer in the South-East of Asia. On an international scale, GT Radial has won its place in top 20. Located in the middle of a natural environment favourable to its development, where rubber is one of the most important resources, GT Radial attracts with its tires' quality, conceived to meet the needs of all consumers. These tires are known in almost 100 countries, for their technological virtues and their modern look. They thus seduced Michelin, who bought a significant part of its shares in 2005. A wonderful business opportunity seized by Michelin, if we remember that GT Radial has always collaborated with sounding brands, like Pirelli, BF Goodrich or Yokohama."
