Try_conti 2nd Gear September 19, 2007 Share September 19, 2007 Just realised that fuel consumption for my Octy A4 seems to have gone up my almost 10% after my servicing last week. Apart from that engine runs smoother & quieter. Changed from C*rlube to SPC Syn Ace 5W-40 (got it for free anyway). So the question is: 1) Could it be that fresh oil is thicker and hence FC suffers ? That means have to use until it shears down before FC would improve ? Anyone noticed the same thing ? Didn't pay attention when I changed the oil @5k to C*rlube last time. The only thing I noticed for the past week is that I used to hit 8.4-8.7l/100km on my journey to work but now is approx. 9.4l/100km. Same route, same driving habits. Also noticed that the gear seems to be hunting a bit more. Does CnC resets the ECU during servicing so that it forgets your driving habits & 'relearn' all over again ? ↡ Advertisement
XLR8 1st Gear September 19, 2007 Share September 19, 2007 Bro, normally after engine oil change, the fuel consumption should be better not the other way around. Since your driving habits are the same, I believe your tires are not under inflated, then the only thing left that can affect your consumption is your engine oil. I believe its your new engine oil which cause your drop inconsumption since that is the only thing you changed so far.
Limlien Clutched September 19, 2007 Share September 19, 2007 Either that or becoz they have idle the car too long during servicing so the ecu have not get use to your normal style.
Try_conti 2nd Gear September 20, 2007 Author Share September 20, 2007 do you know if they 'reset' the ECU after servicing ? I know my FC counter has been reset when I collected my car. Its just that the gears seems to shift more frequently than it used to b4 the servicing ..... don't know whether its my butt feel / imagination or the ECU is trying to relearn my driving habits .... Limlien Clutched September 20, 2007 Share September 20, 2007 I guess the ecu have also been reseted. Coz if not the gear will not change that often. That's my guess.
XLR8 1st Gear September 20, 2007 Share September 20, 2007 Normally after servicing, they will reset the ECU. Maybe you monitor awhile and see how.
Kahlid Neutral Newbie September 20, 2007 Share September 20, 2007 Hey, I am facing the same problem. Wonder if the engine oil type is correct. The car is last serviced at CAS.
Try_conti 2nd Gear September 20, 2007 Author Share September 20, 2007 At least I know that the SPC 5w-50 oil that I used is VW certified ..... What oil did you use ?
Kahlid Neutral Newbie September 20, 2007 Share September 20, 2007 can't remember, it is a house brand, I was told by the service adviser that the oil is VW 502 certified..
Try_conti 2nd Gear September 20, 2007 Author Share September 20, 2007 So CAS is also doing VWs ? That's good. More choice apart from the usual Servo & CAG ...... ↡ Advertisement
