Count_dukulangsat Neutral Newbie January 15, 2008 Share January 15, 2008 (edited) I am also using Singtel Broadband on Mobile ...it's only $15 per month (512K unlimited) discounted from $22 as I am an existing Singnet/Mio user. The speed is supposedly capped at 512K, but if the symbol "H" (for HSPDA I think), appears on the phone the download speed feels a lot faster. Besides surfing via the phone (mine is a Dopod D810) we can now stream videos, with the availability of a Windows Mobile flash-player. See instructions here: http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=92889 I could not get Youtube to work, but there's an alternative site "www.veoh.com" which streams smoothly via Broadband on Mobile. The Dopod (and most 3G phones) can also double as an Internet modem by connecting a USB cable to a laptop and running an "Internet Sharing" software. I have ran VPN on my laptop via the phone modem for hours, and did not get disconnected so I guess it is pretty stable. Dlar2 Neutral Newbie January 15, 2008 Share January 15, 2008 For those that needs roaming to other countries like Malaysia, do not use Singtel, very ex. M1 only pay S$10 and then if in Malaysia, log on to Celcom is the cheapest.
Count_dukulangsat Neutral Newbie January 15, 2008 Share January 15, 2008 I don't think 3G (or Broadband on Mobile) services are roam-able...

Count_dukulangsat Neutral Newbie January 15, 2008 Share January 15, 2008 (edited) If you are using a Windows Mobile PDA phone, like the Dopod D810 (with 3G SIM card inside), - just use the USB cable that came with the phone. It's like doing a "sync" with the laptop, only thing is turn off the Activesync and instead run the following on the PDA: Start-> Programs-> Internet Sharing icon. Click "connect". And verify from your laptop, open a DOS window and verify "ping www.yahoo.com" and you should see replies, or try surfing. That means you're on the Internet. The connection is quite fast (the HSPDA signal is only available around town, and some other areas from what I heard). I could still receive calls, even when connected to Internet. Trex101 3rd Gear October 17, 2008 Share October 17, 2008 Singtel BB sucks big time especially during peak hr(8pm to 11pm). I sometime have to switch to GPRS(56k hor, slower than dial-up) for decent connection.

Sunnyvip Neutral Newbie October 18, 2008 Share October 18, 2008 Hi FooFam77 Have been on Singtel BB since Dec 07. Initially quite fast but nowadays the speed access is very slow. Called up Singtel and they asked me to do a ping test to test both download and upload speeds. I am on the 1 Mbps plan (1000 kbps). When I completed the test, my download speed is only 230 kpbs!!...while upload is only 326 kbps. In short, my download speed is only about a quarter of 1 Mbps!! Called Singtel up and they acknowledged for the past 2 to 3 weeks they have a problem with their GPRS. They have, at their end, "refreshed" my network and things have improved a little but sad to say, the download speed is still pretty dismal. They told me they will get back to me in about a week's time as their engineers and network coverage team are working on it. I am not exaggerating, but out of 10 websites that I plan to enter, about 5 to 6 will show "page cannot be displayed"...very frustrating!!.. Surprisingly, my download speed is up to 1 Mbps in daytime but at night, it hits about 230 kbps. I might be considering giving up Singtel BB on mobile as my contract (12 month) will end in Dec 08. Hope my feedback helps. ↡ Advertisement
