    Fibre broadband

just rcvd a letter from opennet saying that my unit can subscribe to fibre broadband services already. so anyone already using fibre ? how is the speed compared to the present cable or ADSL ? i am considering M1's 25mbps pack at $39 since its the cheapest of the lot and also since all 3 ISP lists their international speed at 15mbps only.
  2. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/broadband-provider-whizcomms-server-breached-by-third-party-customers-information-stolen UPDATED 9 MINS AGO SINGAPORE – Broadband service provider WhizComms notified customers on Wednesday that its Web server had been breached, resulting in a third party stealing their personal information. In an e-mail seen by The Straits Times, the firm said that the data breach affected some customers only, with those affected receiving it. The third party who accessed the firm’s Web server had downloaded scanned images of customers’ personal information, including their NRICs, work permits and tenancy agreements. There was no indication that contact and payment information had been stolen, although the e-mail warned affected customers to look out for any suspicious activities that used their identities. “With scam calls and fraudulent activities already on the rise, we recommend that you continue to be vigilant, especially for any potential signs of identity fraud,” the e-mail added. WhizComms markets itself as having the cheapest 1 Gbps (gigabit per second) plan, which it offers at $32.40 per month for a 24-month contract. Its broadband service is powered by Singtel. It did not disclose the number of people affected, nor did it say when it first detected the breach. It said that the unauthorised access had already been contained, and it is working with the police, the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) and the Infocomm Media Development Authority. It added that it was strengthening its safeguards to prevent a reoccurrence of such incidents. The Straits Times has contacted WhizComms for more information. Meanwhile, a PDPC spokesman said the commission has been notified of the incident and is investigating.

  5. Starhub Broadband cable 100mps cost more than fibre 150mps. Any idea what are the diff interms of real performance ? The guy in the shop told me the following : 1. Cable have higher speed when access international sites. Slower for local sites. 2. Fibre slower when access international sites, but faster for local sites. I cant understand the rational. How fast is fast etc... Can some one explain ? thks
  6. Am using StarHub now and realized that contracts ended last oct. plan to re-contract or switch to M1 for the lower price plan. Wish to ask whether anyone using M1’s plan and any comments?
  7. i know there was a brief discussion here before but couldn't find the thread. I am already with SNBB but quite fedup with the problem that i have with the ADSL and analog lan phone which i think was due to the old estate. Hence i don't mind taking up the new exstream package. however i would like to know how messy is the cable would be like? current i am using 4 homeplugs, 1 for mio tv and in 2 rooms which is quite neat. but i heard the router singtel fiber use is not compatible with the homeplug, and the N wifi router is good enough for all my need (about 6-7 devices connect to internet + mio tv). Any kind soul who has sign up for this service can advice me that what they claim is true? Thanks!
  8. just now my m1 fibre broadband was down for almost an hour - at least ... coz that was from the time i got home from work until now .... anyone else ??
  9. Currently need to change my singtel 3G mobile broadband to 4G because singtel is no longer offering 3G plan. Is it worthwhile to change the 3G dongle to 4G dongle to benefit the speed offers by 4G plan. I need for the laptop for use in the CBD area. I understand the download speed may vary from area to area. I use it for email, surfing and watching youtube. 4G dongle is not cheap slightly over $100. Is there a significant difference to the download speed for my usage to justify spending the money for a 4G dongle? Thank you for your input.

I've subscribe new to starhub and the installation was done last thurs. The cable modem work for three days and this evening ssuddenly unable to connect to the internet with the led blinking instead of staying lit. Called support and tomorrow tech coming down. When on Singtel, no problem at all. Hai....too bad this round no promotion, else i recontract singtel liao.
  20. does this two things operate on the same technology ??? sorry I am not very updated about such things nowadays...
  21. I recently went to renew my Broadband subscription with Telco. I ask for the price of the recent 1Gbps plan thru the newly installed OpenNet and almost fainted : $395/mth. My colleague in HKG is paying only $40/mth for 1Gbps speed. I thought IDA wants to push for this speed and expect the ISP to charge competitively around $40 or something I read recently... Looks like the initial Start-up costs are factored in to be recoup before we can enjoy the low cost... May take years as who in the right frame of mind will pay $395/mth ??
  22. Hi one and all.... it's in the news..... and here are the plans by M1.... http://m1.com.sg/fibre/index.html?ngnbn=01 anyone's gonna get it???

I've tried my colleague's starhub ? 3.6mbps (that's what it said when connected), found it decent. Using SNBB 10mbps at home. Is 1mbps very slow? or good enuff in most of your experiences?v Singtel 1mbps $13.50 for 2yr contract, $22.5 for 1 yr 2mbps $18.5 for 2 yr, $ 26 for 1 yr Starhub (only 2 yr contract) 1.2mbps $14 2mbps $19.4 Singtel starhub
