  6. SINGAPORE - Over $35,000 worth of jewellery was stolen from a store in Yew Tee Square on Saturday afternoon (Dec 15). The police were alerted to the theft at the Choa Chu Kang Street 62 shopping centre at 4.41pm on Saturday. The Straits Times understands that the incident took place at the mall's Gold Scale Jewels jewellery store. The suspect is believed to be a young man who went to the shop asking to view different pieces of jewellery. He walked in and out of the shop several times, taking photos of the jewellery pieces and asking if he could get a discount on some of the pieces on display. At one point, he even told the store assistant that he would come back with his girlfriend. During one of his visits, he allegedly took advantage of the crowd in the store and the fact that the sales assistant was distracted to grab the jewellery which he had earlier asked to examine and flee. An employee at a neighbouring store, who gave her name only as Ms Zheng, told Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao that four of the jewellery store's staff were present when the incident happened. She said that two of the staff chased the suspect but were unable to catch him. ST understands that the suspect, who made off with $35,886 worth of jewellery, including three necklaces and one pendant, had yet to be arrested as of 8.30pm on Sunday. When contacted, the manager of Gold Scale Jewels' Yew Tee Square outlet declined to comment. The police are investigating the incident.

  8. Car thieves in Malaysia have gone high-tech, using device to unlock car with keyless entry Owners of cars using the keyless entry system are at risk of having their vehicles stolen in minutes by a frequencyhacking device that is available in Malaysia. The device, which costs about RM150 (S$50) and can be obtained online or at some electronics stores, can unlock a car and start its engine by hacking its radio frequency identification (RFID) information. A source said the device could unlock almost any car with keyless entry. Source: http://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/car-thieves-in-malaysia-have-gone-high-tech-uses-device-to-unlock-car-with-keyless I still use the old school method to lock the steering but if they wanna steal they'll easily remove it anyway. Still, I think deterrence is better than nothing!
  9. Teutonic Technologies Allan Wan added 4 new photos. 8 hrs · Hi everybody, I'm known mostly as Allan to my friends or Mr Wan to my students. I'm currently caught in a situation where I need all of your help. My car SGQ8851K grey Toyota Estima was sent to a workshop called Teutonic Technologies back in late Dec 2017 but has gone missing since 24 Jan 2018. The personnel at the workshop can no longer be contacted. I've tried all sorts of mean to get any information including filing through Small Claims Tribunal, filing a police report (attached for reference) and seeking help through LTA. LTA had kindly classified my car as "missing" on 2 Mar 2018, making it illegal to be driven on the road. From the LTA fine I've received in the letterbox, my car was last spotted driving through a ERP gantry (Havelock Road/Clemenceau Ave) on 1 Feb at 8.48am without enough cashcard value (attached for reference) and a further police report was filed. There has been no progress since. Hence, I'd like to appeal to all of you to share this information to all your friends in Facebook. If you happen to spot the car, kindly help me call the police or WhatsApp me at 9762 9505 with a photo of it so that I seek help from relevant authorities. Thank you very much! https://www.facebook.com/mr.allan.wan/posts/10214398541572509 pls help this poor guy to find his car

  11. I am writing phone apps for myself in case my car gets stolen in Singapore/Malaysia, I am asking for opinion if it is worth doing it at all. HOW IT WORKS: - I hide an Android phone in my car that tracks the car's location (GPS). The phone can be any old and obsolete Android phone that is worth close to nothing. The phone is installed with an app (I develop) that runs non-stop in the background. - If the car is stolen, I use my regular phone to view my car's location graphically on a map. This phone is installed with an app (I develop) that hides all complexity from the user, but technically it sends an SMS to the car phone and the car phone responds with its location in SMS. The app decodes the SMS and drop-pin on an offline map. WHAT ARE ALREADY AVAILABLE: - There are low cost GPS trackers but they are on 2G networks that won't exist soon. - 3G trackers are expensive. - Commercial car trackers are available and most require subscription. - Most trackers use mobile data. MY METHOD: - Reuse old/obsolete phones that are lying around, so I don't buy anything. - Use SMS to communicate so phones don't need overseas mobile data. SMS in Malaysia doesn't cost much and we use only when car gets stolen. - My regular phone uses offline maps, no need to access online map such as Google map, so again no need mobile data. What are you using to track your car ? If I decide to develop the apps, I might give it away free to commenters here.
  12. Recently there is a case of 2007 Honda Stream being stolen in JB Tesco Tabrau carpark inside the building. This made me worry on the security of JB shopping centre building management and made me too scare to drive to JB. Is there any good ways to prevent from theft of car? Is our current keyless entry with smart key smart enough to deter the car thief? Should we park with head in or head out? Is there any good security equipment we should install to our car to prevent such incident happening?
  13. http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/...130-324630.html 150 cars stolen daily in Malaysia By Austin Camoens PETALING JAYA - An average of 150 vehicles are stolen a day in the country, with Proton and Perodua models topping the list of 112,503 whisked away since 2010. Federal CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Zinin said the high number of thefts was due to the demand not only for new but also old vehicles, which are cannibalised for their parts. A total of 57,462 vehicle thefts were reported in 2010 while the number was 55,041 as of September 2011, he said. He added: "There is a big demand for the stolen vehicles at construction sites in remote areas. Some are used in robberies and other criminal activities while certain models are exported overseas. "We believe that vehicles like Toyota Hilux are stolen to feed the huge demand for four-wheel drives in the Middle East. We think that rebel forces use them to mount guns."

    Car wash stuff stolen

Was washing car this morning at hdb mscp. Had placed a plastic bag containing 2 sponges, one water blade, a bottle of polish and a bottle of sealant against a wall next to the back of my car, as will be using them later. After spending less than 30mins washing the car, I went to take the water blade and realised that the whole plastic bag was gone. Total loss about $50. Guess it's partly my mistake to place the items where I can't see them. Still, quite any unpleasant experience. Just a reminder to all here to take care of your belongings when washing your car, you never know who might be eyeing your stuff and swipe it when there is an opportunity.

    Stolen parking lot

Just want to ask your opinion on how would you react if the car park lot you were waiting for was stolen under your nose by another car. For my case, i was heading for lunch at Sin Ming area where there's always problems with parking. I signaled my intention to park at a lot where a car is coming out, but i had to inch forward for the car to turn out. As I inched forward, the car kept following until my car was out of position, hence i couldn't take the lot anymore. The bugger happily just reversed into my waiting lot. I wanted to horn and get down, but decide against, decided to drive to another location to eat instead. I wonder the guy was pure ignorant or just pure brazen to take the lot knowing that I already signaled to take the lot.
  19. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2739215/Jennifer-Lawrence-victim-hacker-leaks-slew-graphic-nude-photos-Oscar-winning-actress.html A flaw in the 'Find My iPhone' function of Apple's iCloud service may have helped a hacker to steal nude photos of Jennifer Lawrence and '100 other celebrities', it today emerged. The hacker claims he or she broke into stars' iCloud accounts, including those of the Hunger Games actress, Kate Upton and Rihanna, before publishing them on 4chan, the image-sharing forum. A list of the alleged victims of the hack - 101 in total - has also been posted online; most of whom have not seen any photographs leaked by the hacker. A spokesman for Oscar winner Lawrence confirmed to MailOnline the photos of her are genuine. 'This is a flagrant violation of privacy. The authorities have been contacted and will prosecute anyone who posts the stolen photos of Jennifer Lawrence,' the emailed statement read. Following the publication of the images of Sunday night, experts have voiced their concerns over how the hacker managed to access them. Now, reports suggest that a specific flaw in the 'Find My iPhone' service may have been to blame. Despite the story breaking last night, Apple is still yet to confirm or deny whether its software was the target of the hacking.

  22. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-essex-27283885 A stolen mobile phone has emailed a "selfie" of a mystery man back to its owner. Essex Police said they were now keen to talk to the man in the photo. The HTC phone was stolen from an unidentified student's coat pocket while he was walking in Wivenhoe Park, Colchester, on Thursday evening. The phone was fitted with a security device which automatically took a photo when the wrong PIN code was entered into the device. A police spokesman said the man holding the phone had probably inadvertently taken the "selfie" when an incorrect security code was entered several times. The student, whose email account was linked to the security device, then contacted police.
