  2. Every single trolley got stolen from Holland Drive FairPrice on Dec. 14, police investigating In case you can’t read it, someone, or a group of people stole an entire fleet of trolleys from an NTUC outlet. Mothership understands that the outlet in question is the Holland Drive outlet, which operates 24 hours a day. Which means the theft took place when the outlet was open for business. Mothership also understands that the perpetrators were caught on CCTV footage but is unclear if they have been apprehended as yet.

  5. I came across this mural at Holland Drive Market Food Center. It is meant to celebrate Hawker Centers in Singapore for SG50, which is a good idea. However, the mural just looks rather odd, in my humble opinion. What do you think? You can see a still photo. I also made a short video of it. https://youtu.be/IlKE0KcWhUA

  12. SDP certainly has come a long way since the last GE. I am quite impressed with Dr Wijeysingha since the live debate he had with PM together with 11 other folks some time back. The news coverage just a while ago on him & his A-team when he put forth his thoughts on quite a few topics again was [thumbsup] His team star partners like Mr Tan & Dr Ang were also impressive with their gentlemanly behaviour. I guess confrontational style here is unpalatable to Singaporeans so it is a good thing if SDP is genuinely moving away from all that. Love to see how our MCYS minister earns his pay by defending his turf against this SDP A-Team. BTW, many of us are still bitter about the S$387m bill for the YOG... 15. I would record it....make into DVD....and sell it on the net! Money making opportunity. Couple in brazen, explicit make out session in car AsiaOne Thu, Mar 10, 2011 A couple was seen making out in their car in the early hours at a carpark near Holland Village. Their public tryst soon turned into a bold and explicit make out session that prompted a resident to alert the police. The couple first caught STOMP reader Elizabeth's attention when they were walking back to their vehicle at about 1.30am last Saturday night. "Their steps were shaky and unstable, because they were busy kissing and fondling each other as they walked towards their car, a black Hyundai Avante," described Elizabeth. "We had thought that they would merely exchange a few more kisses and touches before they would drive off, but that didn't happen, instead, their acts got even more brazen and explicit, the passionate kisses and frantic groping developed into almost a full making out session that seemed to have no end," she added. Amorous carpark lovers caught on camera Click on thumbnail to view (Photos: STOMP) Elizabeth, who viewed the entire scene from her window with her husband for about 20 minutes, was so disturbed that she decided to call the Police. However, before she could get to the phone, her husband informed her that the couple had left. Elizabeth laments that this isn't the first time that she had witnessed such inappropriate and indecent behavior by couples at the carpark. Others stared but they didn't care PDA can get you fined Students caught making out in public "For couples who think that this carpark offers them a private romantic sanctuary, they are very wrong; this is a public carpark surrounded by housing blocks with people, children included, living in them, and many of us sure have little tolerance for such obscene behaviour," said Elizabeth. She said that she wants to share her story in order to discourage people from having a tryst in a public carpark that is surrounded by housing blocks. "It is not only an eyesore but extremely inappropriate for children to see."
  16. If anyone of you read this or your friend is reading this. Appreciate you let the fellow cyclist know. SAFETY 1st! Your group is about 20 in size if not wrong. With majority consist of Caucasian & few local. You have always occupied the whole left lane and we driver is kind enough not to kick a din since you are in a big group. All I need is you stick to the left lane and do not come over to RIGHT LANE!!!! get that? LEFT LANE only! not 1st lane. (I am a cyclist too!) I encounter a group of cyclist almost every Friday morning while driving along Holland road towards Orchard road. Right at the junction of Botanical Garden, a couple of cyclist suddenly diverted from the main group. Went to 1st lane and carry on cycling, and without any blinker at all. I drove past their and shouted at them "Please keep to left lane. Left lane only!" It really spoil my Friday mood! so inconsiderate and selfish (I guess they want to filter into Tangling road and lazy to to use pedestrian crossing at the junction right in front of Tanglin Shopping Center)
  17. This Lamborghini caught fire along Holland Road on Friday, a week after a Ferrari that went up in flames made local headlines. Reader Siva Sundram not only captured the drama on camera, he also was a part of it -- putting out the small blaze with a fire extinguisher he bought just the day before, which he had stashed in his car. According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force, the driver of the supercar was a 30-year-old man who had a female passenger with him. source: TODAY
  18. Dear mcf-fers, I wonder how many of you are die hard fans of the famous katong laksa in Holland Village? Tonight i was there for that but was disgusted at the end. I spotted a cockroach inside after i was about to finish the whole bowl It resembles those cockroaches that I caught in my cockroach bait i kept in my car. But it's slightly different cause this one got pattern on the shell. Called the PRC staff over and she quickly asked the lady boss to come over. I did not say much and they quickly refunded me for the bowl. Went off feeling as i did not know if i swallowed any down anot. Well, if you are truly their die hard fan, maybe you may now think twice before going there. As for me, I guess it will take some time before i forget ps: I know that it is not 100% clean when it comes to food outside. But I am surprised to witness it myself tonight
  19. Marshals at Holland V HDB hires them to improve flow at carpark with new parking system By Sumathi V. Selvaretnam THE Housing Board has deployed marshals from a private company to guide drivers at a much-talked-about carpark in Holland Village that has recently been outfitted with an electronic parking system. They are there to help improve traffic flow around the 400-lot Holland Avenue carpark, which has been at the centre of a three-week controversy. Last month, the HDB forced two popular valet services that operated out of the carpark to close down, saying they caused congestion, harassed motorists and blocked lanes. On Sept 22, the HDB introduced the electronic system for the carpark, the closest one to Holland Village's restaurants, bars, spas and retail outlets. When The Straits Times visited last Friday evening, carpark marshals dressed in red polo T-shirts were seen guiding motorists to available lots. They work for G.Tech, the company that manages the electronic system, which runs on CashCards. The HDB said on Tuesday that the setup, which charges drivers by the minute, has cut down on the number of motorists who monopolise lots. It said the new system has helped an additional 300 to 700 motorists find a spot each day. Some motorists who spoke to The Straits Times, though, said they still preferred valet parking, which they said were more convenient. With the new system, drivers who head to the area at popular times, such as on Fridays and weekends, still have trouble getting lots, and many are forced to wait in the carpark for some time before they can park. 'In an emergency, I don't have to wait around. I'll just give the car to the valet and head off,' said Ms Jocelyn Wong, 31, an interior designer. Last Friday, for example, at least six cars were seen waiting for a lot between 7pm and 8pm. Eleven out of the 15 motorists interviewed said sometimes, the wait took as long as 20 minutes. Sales manager Rajan Subramaniam, 35, was among them. 'They still let cars in when it is full. I am paying for every minute while waiting,' he said. Responding to queries from The Straits Times, the HDB said drivers should consider nearby carparks during prime hours. These include the multi-storey carparks at Block 5A Holland Close, Block 10A Holland Drive, the surface carpark next to the Buona Vista Swimming Complex and the on-street carpark at Chip Bee Gardens. All are within walking distance of Holland Village. It added that though the carpark does not bar drivers from entering when it is full, they are given a 10-minute grace period to look for a lot before exiting it. Meanwhile, some businesses in the area which had deals with the valet companies to park their customers' cars have seen their takings drop. Mrs Sabrinah Hussin, 23, who manages Splendour Spa, said she has had fewer walk-in customers, and the number of regulars has dropped byhalf. 20. Holland V valets to close HDB puts up signs at carpark entrances banning such services By Sumathi V. Selvaretnam THE two carpark valet services in Holland Village, there for years, were told yesterday that they have to cease operations from today. Last night, workers contracted by the Housing and Development Board (HDB) put up signs at the carpark entrances in Lorong Liput and Lorong Mambong declaring that such parking services were banned. An electronic parking system will go up there on Sept 22 to regulate the demand for parking lots, said the HDB. Mr R.K. Vicnesh, 32, who runs the year-old Sakthya Services, said he heard about the ban only yesterday. Before him, the booth had been run by his brother-in-law from 2001. Mr Vicnesh charges motorists $8 to park their car so they can avoid the hassle of circling the area for a lot. His valet service has tie-ups with eight restaurants and service providers in the area, including Splendour Spa, Qi Mantra and Lebanese restaurant Al-Qas'r. Sakthya charges these businesses a monthly fee for their customers to enjoy free valet parking. It also has a tie-up with DBS Bank to give customers free valet parking if they charge $60 or more to their DBS or POSB cards at the outlets in the area. Mr Vicnesh has written to the HDB asking to be allowed to continue his services. He is also collecting signatures from business owners for a petition against the ban on valet services. Both he and the other valet operator, Purple Valet Services, plan to continue operating until further notice from the HDB. Said Mr Ray K., a valet with Purple Valet Services: 'The outlets have paid us, so we will stay.' Both operators said that in the time they have been there, nobody has told them that they needed a permit, or that they were not allowed there, except that Sakthya was once asked by the Land Transport Authority to move its valet booth away from the pavement. It has since operated its booth outside the Haagen Daz cafe without further incident. Shop owners, whose customers are younger Singaporeans and expatriates, expressed disappointment at the ban on valet services. Mrs Sabrinah Hussin, 23, who manages Splendour Spa, said eight in 10 of the spa's customers used the free valet service because 'it is hard to find parking lots here, and they want to be on time for their appointments'. Mr Amos Liew, 27, a supervisor at Qi Mantra spa, is worried he may lose customers if the parking problem worsens. Lebanese restaurant Al-Qas'r managing director Georges Khanashat said the restaurant might have to move if the situation does not improve. Lawyer Leong Kwok Yan, 61, said valet services were needed because parking facilities were inadequate. 'People are always waiting around for a long time, and they jam up the carpark.' Besides the Lorong Liput carpark - where half the lots are season parking ones for HDB residents in the area - visitors to Holland Village used to have another carpark across the road at Chip Bee Gardens, but that was closed down in 2004 for work to build Holland Village's MRT station. 21. It was Sunday yesterday. I had just finished work at 7:30pm, picked up my g/f from Dover MRT and we were headed to Holland V for dinner. I was super tired from work and hungry from lack of food by then. Drove in as usual from the entrance that had a lot of construction work and drove down the slope past the satay stall and the chinese restaurant towards the carpark area. Noted at the T-junction of the car-park that the right side had loads of cars waiting and thus, I followed two other cars to the left. The two cars ahead of me never noticed the grey car that was going to leave and drove on ahead. I spotted the grey car about the leave as I drove past it and flicked on my hazard lights. At that time, there were no cars behind me at all after the one behind me understood that I wanted that lot and moved off along my right. The grey car started to move out of its lot. I was so happy to be able to get a lot so quickly. But the grey car then JAMMED brake. Behind me, came a zooming taxi around the bend. Ok, so I exaggerate. But do see the picture I drew to show that there was sufficient space for the taxi even after its car park racing skills had shown that it could corner quickly. [inline hollandv.jpg] But it was enough to stop the grey car dead in its tracks. My g/f was already outside the car to help see that the grey car could initially clear mine in order for it to turn left out of the carpark. The taxi was now blocking its path. From anyone's perspective, the taxi had LOADS of space to turn its right a bit more and clear my car. It chose to highbeam and honk at me to clear off. I wound down my window to wave at the driver to move along beside me. My g/f was indicating that I wanted to park in that lot. Angrily, the taxi driver revved and drove past. The Ang Mor in the taxi wound down his window and yelled at me, "MOVE ALONG @SS-HOLE, THIS IS A ROAD!!!" To which I replied, "THIS IS A PARKING AREA, WHITE BOY. NEXT TIME, GO TO THE MAIN ROAD TO GRAB A CAB."
