depends on the capacity, nos of doors, etc.

used to own one jippun made mitsubishi with rotary screw compressor c/w inverter, silent and energy saving.

for smaller fridge, LG and samsung prices r hard to beat. look for regular offers in best denki adverts. enuff for 2 person to use. but.. there sud b a thread on this somewhere u can find out more.

I like fridges that have the freezer section below because they are the most energy efficient since cold air sinks but they cost more than regular fridges.

Important is to have a fridge that has height adjustable shelves, good seal along the doors, warranty on the compressor/against rust and individual compartments in the freezer section to minimize odour diffusion and contamination.

Within your price range, there is a new Panasonic bottom freezer fridge that should be suitable but it cost S$999 at the big stores. Probably can get it cheaper from the neigbourhood appliance shops. Panasonic may have a smaller model but I am not sure about this.

Panasonic bottom freezer fridge. I'm using one but it cost me 600~700 at that time. Not a very big one. It makes a lot of noise, kind of like pop and whirl noises. I dun find it good.

My Ariston Fridge also went down in 5 years... think it is not that reliable.

"Went Down" ? Many ppl dont know how to take care of their fridge.. it's a very simple pc of hardware...

Only a few things can go wrong:

1. Compressor

2. Fan

3. Juice - Gas

Fan costs $10 bucks

Compressor if replaced before 5 yrs is FOC ... otherwise $400 ? +/-

Gas - top up

If tubing konked out... just replace compressor ...

Yea..that's the problem with white goods. We only see them on display but not in operation so it is difficult to judge how quiet/reliable they will run. That is why I believe for such goods that will last a pretty long time, doing proper research online to be an informed consumer and spending more may save a lot of heartache/hassle/cost down the line.

Unfortunately for the price paid, I guess such fridges are made in Malaysia, Indonesia or Thailand so QC is most likely an issue.

However from what I understand, the compressors in many of the newer Japanese models are from Japan so they should have improved compared to a few years ago. Also a few years back, many of these Japanese companies had just shifted their operations to these developing countries and it does take time to work out the kinks in the manufacturing processes.
