Titanium 4th Gear January 25, 2008 Share January 25, 2008 (edited) is sala! Heard from radio today tat the $318 figure is per day (24hrs), not per shift. So... usually there is 2 shifts per days. Assuming rental - $100 per day Fuel + Misc - $100 per day $318 - $100 - $100 = $118 $118/2 = $59 per shift Correct me if i m wrong. What a big different from the claimed $318. I think few mths back MOE also got wrong statics abt FT studying in SG uni... Well done! Edited January 25, 2008 by Titanium ↡ Advertisement

Redwood Neutral Newbie January 25, 2008 Share January 25, 2008 Drivers' earnings up, cab waiting times down: Raymond Lim THE recent taxi fare hike may have just put a lid on a cab crunch which was threatening to boil over. If preliminary findings are anything to go by, Transport Minister Raymond Lim said the fare revision last month was 'effective' in meeting the increasing demand of taxis in the Central Business District (CBD). Based on figures taken four weeks after the Dec 18 fare hike, Mr Lim said waiting times in the city area during peak hours have 'gone down substantially'. Mr Lim revealed that commuters in the city only have to wait for up to 6 minutes for a cab, significantly less than the 5 to 22 minutes before the fare hike. Waiting times at the Suntec City taxi stands - said to be the worst performing of the lot - have been cut drastically from 22 minutes to 4 minutes. While some cabbies have complained that passengers are not flagging taxis, Mr Lim said their earnings have however gone up. Based on figures provided by ComfortDelGro, Singapore's biggest taxi operator, cabbies are pocketing about $11 more a day, earning about $318. Mr Lim was responding to questions from MP for Tampines GRC Ms Irene Ng and MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC Mr Baey Yam Keng in Parliament. Mr Lim also allayed Ms Ng's fears, saying that the extra surcharges for cabs plying the city areas would not pinch the supply in the suburbs. The Transport Minister assured the House that the Land Transport Authority would continue to monitor the situation over the next 3 to 4 months and work with taxi operators and associations. Damienic 5th Gear January 25, 2008 Share January 25, 2008 My father used to be a taxi driver and I know the situation. Starting from 7am - 5pm (day shift), his gross earnings is abt $200 max on very good days and abt $160-170 on normal days. One shift rental is abt $50 and disesel cost is abt $30-35. Take home pay only $80-115 per day. Assuming 70 vs 30 siutations, his avg about $90-95 per day. Nothing close to wat they claim. There are only 2 shifts possible per day. In the optismistic scenario of each shift driver taking home $100 per shift, the max per day can only be $200 or $200++ at most. $307 and $318 is still too far fetched. And even then, my father was a very experienced driver whose take home is considered to be abv avg compared to most cabbies. There are others whose take home is less than the $80-90 per day bracket. Raymond shld apologise for the big boo boo.

Typhoonz 4th Gear January 25, 2008 Share January 25, 2008 A cab driver can hit a max of $318 (assuming he's a robot and needs no sleep) but how many times does that happen? Cannot assume all cabbies can hot that amount everyday right? What the fark was that fella thinking when he made this report? Or id this an elite thing? Gearoil 1st Gear January 25, 2008 Share January 25, 2008 I mean the rest of the others who doesn't know or have anyone driving a cab for a living? This place is well known for .."HOW YOU CAN MAKE IT NOBOBY WANTS TO KNOW" attitude...of course, for those with $$$ they'll attract 'sunshine friends'...but then again for those who are struggling...even the MIW really don't give a hoot whether you can find ways to make it thru daily or monthly....they'll just tell you the GDP is good and everyone is doing well! ↡ Advertisement
