Just bought a 2008 model Chery V5. The thing I find most disturbing is the agents Vertex. Sent it in for a checkup and realised that EVERYTHING except for engine and transmission (3 yrs warranty) is 1 year warranty only. Radiator fan they said faulty want to charge me S$400plus. WTH! This is the 9th car I have ever owned in my life and first time hearing about a $400plus radiator far. Everything basically had to pay, and their normal servicing was S$285!! Can you believe that?

A case of lousy local agent spoiling the reputation of otherwise reasonably decent cars for the price?? [bigcry]

China made cars are good for off-peak usage - maybe 2000 km per year kind of usage. The electrical parts will not last very long but engine & gear seems

ok. Vertex is out of the ball game when comes to warranty and parts pricing. I would rather get Proton made - all parts are cheap and easily available.

I'm driving Chery T11 2.0 . SO far no prob except for accesories. I encounter speedometer spoilt so they replace for me a new panel with the odo reset to 0 again. [:)] .. My milage at that time is 20k++. Now only 1k.. I went up to kl... with my family... manage to hit 180km/h. engine a bit noisy but i think soundproffing will solve the prob. FC 10 - 11km/l.. NSH got 12.5km/l.. I luv the car.. but servicing every 5k... so a bit ex..

For my case, so far so good for my Chery QQ311 (third generation with 472 engine etc and enhance interior)

The truth is when Chery QQ first started selling in Singapore, it indeed is problematic and give users lots of problem.

And all this is made worse by the vampire blood sucking agent and distributor selling the parts at mercedes price.

As year goes by, second generation born, learning lesson from the earlier version, the chinese enhance it.

And now QQ6(fourth generation) is born, they skip QQ4 and 5 because those 2 numbers chinese believe is not good.

Those chinese car maker constantly increase their R & D with the money they earn.

You look at Samsung, where are they now? Sony and other japanese brand used to be the brand to go for when buying tv etc.

Those days, if you buy samsung product, most likely u will have problem after a while.

Now????

Anyway, morale of the story is those chinese are constantly upgrading, be it their economy or technology.

Those who said bad remarks still living in the olden days, just like lots of people still believe china is still village or kampong.

Given a choice, I will buy MIC car again, value for money but DO NOT buy older generation model!!

Model from mid 2008 onwards is good.

Tips: If you own a MIC car, buy spare parts from china and sent to singapore. Much much cheaper.

example, oil filter 14rmb, air filter 14rmb, brake pads for all 4 wheel about 140rmb and more....

The price i said is for well know brand, if get stock, even cheaper.

To maintain or repair MIC car is not expensive, its the agent here that causes so much problem. F... them

Cheers.

Absolutely, I checked and the price for the radiator fan is 2 hundred plus only

Oh, rmb not singapore dollar, so after conversion about $50.

To me, the vampire agent mark up the price more than 5 times, 250-300 rmb to the agent will be 300 sgd parts.

Looks like you have found the "Holy Grail" of spares for

our China cars [;)]

Yup, i now avoid the agent like a plague.

Now I am independent of the dealer.

Found a trusty workshop or two and we are good

to go with regards to maintenance.

I like my car as i learned a lot through solving

the problems faced. Furthermore they are very mechanical

and has little electronics so its easy to repair by workshops.

Thanks for the reply guys. I complain a lot about the Chery V5 because my wife really wanted it and I went against all I knew was right and bought it because she liked the car and because the price was really attractive. After 2 months, I am slightly happier now. I changed the radiator fan with a trusted mechanic for less than half the price and he even used a japanese fan motor instead!! However, there was a problem with the radiator hose leaking after he put it back and he basically had to to double clamp the hose to stop the leak. He said that the hose used to connect the radiator to the engine looked a bit bigger than usual... but the important thing was that was solved, however I still think that my engine is quite hot after each drive.

I subsequently had problems with one of my headlights having water vapor but used silicon to cover the gaps and that is ok now. Honestly, if one can look past the build quality of the interior and substandard QC of the parts like light assembly, etc then I think it's a pretty value for money buy.

Now I have 2 issues outstanding. First is my reverse sensor is not working correctly and secondly the AC in the car is extremely cold. Even at 32 deg cel which is the max, the air con is damn cold during the day. If I set it any lower, the compressor hardly cuts off. I am sure this is related to the thermostat, but I would like to get a recommended shop to go to as my mechanic does not specialise in AC.

Looking at 2 yr old Chery, I would shake my head. U bought urself a Lemon bro.

The headlihts plastic looks melted and yellowish, sometimes brown.

Chery will close very soon. The high COE etc is not doing Vertex a favour.

Pardon me for being blunt....

I especially loves the way the CS guys drive the Cherys around the building when the owners sent it in for servicing. They cheong every hump like they were driving Citroens.

Seriously I hope it does. Vertex deserves it.

- When in the event I want to sell my car after a few years of driving, I can fetch a much higher value. I did not need to sell at a high price because I did not spend much in the first place!!!

- When I drive a nice conti/jap, I can travel in style. SURE!!! 168 is stable and comfortable!!!

- When I meet customers, I can instill confidence when i drive a nice car. SURE!!! In Singapore where cars are at a premium, people will simply admire me purely for owning a car!!!
