Theobserver 2nd Gear May 7, 2008 Share May 7, 2008 I've stayed in Equatorial whenever I am there. Good hotel with a safe car park (I guess). I would advise taking the suite there as the room is big. You can also check in at the VIP lounge on the 21st floor ( I think ) and not on the ground floor. Furthermore, the lounge serves free beer and red wine daily after 6pm for the suites. Other times, you can go in and help yourself to the finger food and drinks. Also when you eat out, must try the teochew food at a certain coffeeshop near Jonker St. But you must book first before you go there as the shop can seat at most 8 tables. Just ask the hotel staff to book for you.
Siewss 1st Gear May 7, 2008 Share May 7, 2008 If possible try to get the Kid Suite. It only slightly more expensive than the standard room. My son loves it. The room is huge with separate small partition for the doubled deck bed for the kids. For some reason, I can't even find the selection for Kid Suite. http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/1/en/r...ckagesFlag=true Can you help direct me to the link? Siewss 1st Gear May 7, 2008 Share May 7, 2008 Good tip! Great! I'm there for food, but not CRAP! I think there's a "Bei Zhan" Chinese restaurant and a Peranakan restaurant famous for its chendol nearby.

Siewss 1st Gear May 7, 2008 Share May 7, 2008 Good info. Reassuring to know that you also found the carpark safe, though you're still guessing . Didn't know the suites are so ex. I'd settle for Equator Club Room, which already cost a hefty MYR600 per night. http://www.equatorial.com/mel/index.php?na...&sub_navi_id=12 Did you book directly from the above site? Or are there better deals to be had?
Siewss 1st Gear May 7, 2008 Share May 7, 2008 Now I can tell that Holiday Inn is at least 1km from Equatorial. Mahkota is nearer to Holiday Inn, while Carrefour is nearer to Equatorial. Which is a better mall, I wonder... Wife intends to do some shopping
Furrynadz 5th Gear May 7, 2008 Share May 7, 2008 makota abt 10min from equatorial, carrefoure just beside the new megamall more new shops with international brands, mahkota smaller shops
Siewss 1st Gear May 7, 2008 Share May 7, 2008 So this is very much a boutique hotel. That's the problem - adults like myself love it. I'm sure I'll enjoy the quaint decor and laid back feel, but the kids will scream blue murder. They need the space and the amenities, if not my performance rating by the kids will be down in the dumps.
Siewss 1st Gear May 7, 2008 Share May 7, 2008 Maybe there are too many German makes around to make a GPS anymore interesting than a sticky mat.
Furrynadz 5th Gear May 7, 2008 Share May 7, 2008 not much i didnt see any conti up there besides my citroen, a SGP plated blue focus and a volvo, and a fake lexus rx300 there mostly the 1.6L japan cars guess most went further during the lwes
Siewss 1st Gear May 7, 2008 Share May 7, 2008 All within walking distance. Sounds quite ideal for the weather that May & June can throw at me.
Siewss 1st Gear May 7, 2008 Share May 7, 2008 Thanks. You're the 2nd person to dissuade me from Newton Food Center - they sell "crap". I'll take this advice to heart. I want to enjoy every single meal while I'm in Malacca.
Siewss 1st Gear May 7, 2008 Share May 7, 2008 (edited) Maybe the VVIPs park at the driveway. Anyway, carpark safety is paramount. I don't mind them grabbing my GPS, or cashcard, if they want to, just leave my car alone. Hmm, I have definitely narrowed my hotel choices to either Equatorial or Holiday Inn. I think price shall be the deciding factor. Edited May 7, 2008 by Siewss

Kelpie 2nd Gear May 7, 2008 Author Share May 7, 2008 I've ruled out Puri - my kids don't quite like being squished by surrounding buildings, and they need to pool to expend their energy. I don't get the location of Holiday Inn looking at the online map, but isn't it quite close to Equitorial (maybe 200m away?). Actually I would have gone for Equitorial, except that I was kind of deterred by Kelpie's comment on the very busy traffic in front of Equitorial. Perhaps Kelpie can help elaborate if this is more for security or safety? 1. I stayed in Puri with my family. It is a different feeling altogether, at least the kids get to know what is it like staying in such old houses. 2. HI is even nearer to Markota, in fact they are neighbours. 3. Not staying with equtorial is a personal choice and yes, I do not like the one way traffic infront of equtorial since I will be driving around in Malacca. I seldom leave my car in hotel carpark and I like to drive around in my own car. Being one way traffic, it is kinda of difficult to get in and out based on my personal experience during peak hours and if you miss the turn, you have to go around the one-way street back to equtorial. 4. IMHO, there are also better hotels than equtorial and I like to try out other hotels too. Regards, ↡ Advertisement
