Kopi Neutral Newbie April 8, 2008 Share April 8, 2008 im driving a 16 yr old coming 17 car. just change my oil in feb. b4 the change and flush i was using cxxxxxe 5W40. when hit 4k the oil very black and dirty liao. den flush that time. the car like lao sai like that. problem is before i change to cxx xxxe i also flush liao. conclusion is mechanic say this oil not good for my car. then he tell me try OWS multilight 10W40. change liao now clock 3K+ the oil still like swee swee. slightly brown only. then FC and power much better than usual. in my opinion the oil is bad. change it. after try OWS i would say highly recommended. some might have other opinions. heard redline, amsoil and royal purple not bad. u might wanna try it out. im not really a supporter of commercialise products like M1, SHU and Castrol. so if asked me i wont used those.i think they over price liaoz. Bro for a car that's coming to 17yrs old is better to use 15w40, 15w50 or 20w50. Your current 10w40 oil only clock 3K+ wait till u clock 5K+ then u check see whether swee swee or not ↡ Advertisement

Sonicmood Neutral Newbie April 11, 2008 Share April 11, 2008 (edited) I have noticed my engine oil turned black quicklyhave driven abt 600 km from last service car is < 2 years old used synthetic 15W 50 for this last service, have been using 05w 40 previously if it turns black quickly, does it mean that the oil is doing its job in cleaning the engine. or the oil quality is not good I don't do UOA What is the mileage of your car that you need to use 15W-50? Use 5W-20 or 5W-30 if car mileage is less then 100k..else it will have poor fuel economy. I'm presently using Mobil1 extended performance which can last till above 24k... Adawang 1st Gear April 11, 2008 Author Share April 11, 2008 [reply]w30 will not give you more power, maybe a more smooth engine, and slightly better FC if you continue to drivafter service with 50 weight, engine feels smooth after service with 50 wt oil, engine feels smoother than 40wt oil here are the fc figures 1st tank, 310 km on 45.12 L =6.87 kml 2nd tank, 334.1 on 45.31 L =7.37 kml 3rd tank 342.6 on 45.76 L =7.48 kml 4th tank, 359 km on 45.45 L =7.89 kml quite happy with the last tank. I have never achieved this kind of good figures before. cud be attributed to light foot driving. can see the figures getting better as it goes

Sonicmood Neutral Newbie April 11, 2008 Share April 11, 2008 (edited) The smaller the "W" nos the lighter the oil does giving better FC... Anyway, I'm using both fully synthetic Amsoil and Mobil1 extended performance w20 and w30 range... driving a 1.8L(A) on SPC95 petrol and getting about 580km/45L which is about 12.5km/l on a 60-HW 40-City with oil change at every 20k... BTW, if you are using fully synthetic oil then why change oil at 5k interval? Edited April 11, 2008 by Sonicmood
Adawang 1st Gear April 11, 2008 Author Share April 11, 2008 (edited) w stands for winter, not applicable here 5k is the factory recomended interval, One can never change oil too often, hahaha oil change at 20k, wow will the oil be good after so many km? Sonicmood Neutral Newbie April 11, 2008 Share April 11, 2008 (edited) sorry for not making myself clear... I mean the nos behind the "W"...heehee.. Huh...5k interval by factory?? May I know what is your ride...? For what I know most jap ride stated a 10k interval while conti ride are at 15k... My bro audi is doing a 15k interval... 20k interval so far got no issues... cos the oil i used can travel 15k miles b4 the next oil change...which is about 24k... I did that for all my previous 4 rides Edited April 11, 2008 by Sonicmood ↡ Advertisement
