u can't get another car for 3k! [laugh] it wouldn't help either if the owner had spent money on a previous upgrade... double whammy!

and i guess for most upgraders, it's also about the reliability and fun factor.

lol. i dun see the need in living in fear of rovs and tps everyday. i think at least 4k to get the job done for 4E-FTE. and at best stock 135bhp. and from then, ur mods wont be cheap. why not get a ek4? u get stock 170bhp straight.

haha, you seem to be heavily influenced by someone else we know... [laugh]

but the fact of the matter is that to buy a EK4 now, you can't get it at $8k or even $11k (when we first bought our cars). you are talking $30k and up! sure, it's 8-10 years COE, but it's still forking out twice the cash. on top of that, you get penalized for insurance (3 door, high risk) and road tax (1600cc x 150%).

i'm speaking theoretically, assuming that the swap was legal...

from a tech point of view, here's a few interesting numbers to think about:

the power to weight ratio of EK4 is about 156 hp/ton vs 160 hp/ton for EP80 (4EFTE).

max torque is the same for both, but 4EFTE hits max torque at 4800rpm vs EK4's 7300rpm

top horsepower for EK4 is at 7600rpm vs 6400rpm for 4EFTE.

EP82 does 0-100 in 6.9seconds vs mid-7 seconds for EK4

stock to stock, performance will roughly be the same. when you talk about modifications, the dollar to hp ratio for a turbo car is much lower, especially in the initial stages of tuning. a simple FMIC and open pod filter gives you an easy 20hp more. add a boost controller and fuel pressure regulator and you can get another 30-50hp more depending on how aggressive you are. drop a TD04L turbo and you can cross the 200bhp mark for about $2-3k. with a piggyback ECU, you push that up to 250bhp safely. of course after that, you'll need forged internals. well, i don't know. but that seems like a good proposition. there's no doubt that NA tuning is much harder.

that said, i'm not a big fan of 4E swap. i agree that each to his own. i know people in M'sia who have done it and are really happy campers. as you say, swapping a 4E is highly illegal here and I don't know anybody who has done it...

then again, as they say "if you want to play, don't be scared. if you want to be scared, don't play."

tats why i dun look at the 4E route. why spend more then 10k where at the end of the day u noe it might go into smoke. dun forget less then 3 yrs coe to go nia.

the malaysians finds it worthwhile cuz their cars can drive until chui. how about here?

though i dun intend to change, but i encourage the change. hence more parts will be available in the market for the na runners here. [laugh]

anyway where u get the specs of 0-100 at 6.9secs? cant seems to find it anywhere.
