$600 is a lot for a normal day use camera, considering that the 6 mega-pix Nikon D40 SLR is only selling for under $800.

You might also want to consider if your computer can handle hundreds of 12-megapixal photos or will a mid-range 6 to 8 mega pixel be enough for your usage.

Till now, I still can't find a GOOD reason to replace my 4-megapixal camera .... especially when I'm sure thats about the limit my 3yr old laptop can handle [:p]

u can try the following for their long time 'reputation' for quality [flowerface]

nikon

canon

pentax

a place u can go to for camera fishing and get great suggestions and advises is Cathay photo shop at peninsula plaza - city hall

they've got very experienced people there.

are u intending to get those handy small and slim kind

or those bulkier black ones with lenses?

if u are getting the latter, u migherhave to consider getting a dry box or dry cabinet for it and other diff types of lens

do note that canon, nikon and even pentax "sucks" when it comes to low lighting...

i had been a powershot A570IS -> powershot SX100IS canon supporter... then fujifilm low light image quality won me over [lipsrsealed]

if you are going to shot primarily indoor, then go for fujifilm f100fd... u won't go wrong.. pls dun go for f50fd, that one is a weird deviation from the f series..

a shot taken at ISO800, this is with ambience light from my table lamp...

its really dark here... and fujifilm is really tok kong with their SuperCCD and Real Photo technology...

notice that the image is generally clean, its remarkable for a compact... [thumbsup]
