What is Bycast leather? Difference from PVC or PU Leather?

 

How to tell the difference?

 

Is there different grades of Bycast leather?

 

I have seen Barang Barang bycast leather sofa and other 'no name' shops bycast leather sofa or PU leather.

 

i can tell the difference between Barang Barang's and other shops by feeling the sofas

 

The Barang one feels more like leather. i can even scratch the sofa and marks are left on it. Feels like leather.

 

But the other 'no name' shops', it really feels like PVC or whatever, i cannot scratch it with marks. Feels like rubber or PVC materials

Firstly, PVC is synthetic and should be considered separately. Its easy to clean and cheap cos it's not from a cow.

 

Bycast is a normally top grain, or split hide. It is usually ironed very smooth to remove the natural graining. It is treated using protective coatings, used most of the time on modern settings.

 

I own a bycast couch. It is easy to maintain. Stains do not readily seep into the leather and treated carefully, it shines brilliantly, especially under halogen lights.

 

Bycast tends to be a little harder than the soft cushy leathers. Those come under the category of topgrains, or perhaps even nubuck.

nope, you won't feel hot. Just clean it like you'd clean any other leather. One thing to note, Bycast leather does not emit the lovely leather smell that one might expect.
