Having water injection in a Natural Aspirated car is almost redundant and water injection is not cheap too

Lowering the operating temperature of the engine may not be the best thing too, the engine has an optimum operating temperature that is regulated by the thermostat in the cooling system (with multiple sensors too), so improving cooling efficiency is probably what you want rather than just lowering the engine temp.

 

Like Cool mentioned, get a ATF cooler, higher power cooling fan and keeping your cooling system maintained is probably the most cost effective way of getting longevity and economy from your engine

Are you sure this is possible? The idea behind hydro locking is that 1 teaspoon of water will boil, and become like 1 liter of air within combustion chamber, causing unusually high pressure, and throwing off the timing, and all moveable parts break.

 

I heard that introducing little water into the intake manifold will cause steaming in the engine and breaks apart carbon for cleaning (very controversial). I think any amount of water in the engine will lower the HP/torque by alittle due to the added (useless) pressure.

Idea is to allow water mist to evaporate inside the turbo or supercharger, lowering the temperature. The lowered temperature will increase little horsepower which will be offset by the moisture charge in the air. Due to the lowered temp, it is possible to push the psi even more, achieving more HP.

 

Nice trick if you have turbo...

 

Also read about people using water misting device on their intercooler... Abit overboard..

Hi, managed to dig up this old thread. Recently saw another engine enhancement using water. It is more on spiltting water into hydrogen and oxygen. Anyone here tried?

Go check out the AQUAMIST.

 

ALthough more useful for TC or SC cars.... I heard that there are some advantages in NA ones. Some malaysian cars have a DIYed mist system of this nature. Of course its cheaper .... but don't ask me about it as I do not have the details.

eh i have used such cooling mist before.i thought its usually use on intercoolers with either on/off switch or according to set boost level?

That's a different one.

 

The one you're referring to is the intercooler spray. Somethimes also employed to spray onto the radiators. These are all "external" spray systems.

 

The Aquamist is a mist injection into the combustion chamber. Different thing.
