Jimmyl Neutral Newbie June 17, 2003 Author Share June 17, 2003 Okie. Will drop the water injection thingy. Thanks for the advice. ↡ Advertisement
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie June 17, 2003 Share June 17, 2003 Having water injection in a Natural Aspirated car is almost redundant and water injection is not cheap too
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie June 17, 2003 Share June 17, 2003 Lowering the operating temperature of the engine may not be the best thing too, the engine has an optimum operating temperature that is regulated by the thermostat in the cooling system (with multiple sensors too), so improving cooling efficiency is probably what you want rather than just lowering the engine temp. Like Cool mentioned, get a ATF cooler, higher power cooling fan and keeping your cooling system maintained is probably the most cost effective way of getting longevity and economy from your engine
Jimmyl Neutral Newbie June 17, 2003 Author Share June 17, 2003 What is an ATF cooler? Roughly how much? Thanks
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie June 18, 2003 Share June 18, 2003 ATF coolers should run for about $100 without install
Jimmyl Neutral Newbie June 19, 2003 Author Share June 19, 2003 Thanks for the tip. Got tight budget. Nothing more than 100. Thanks again
Mondeo Neutral Newbie June 19, 2003 Share June 19, 2003 So don't try the water injection, try the Nos injection right!? p.s. G-tech pro got PC software can download from web site.
Ironheart Neutral Newbie June 19, 2003 Share June 19, 2003 so where can we install it, very interested in the ATF cooler cos doing a lot of city driving these days :(
Michel Neutral Newbie June 19, 2003 Share June 19, 2003 TB, Aftermarket ATF and oil coolers are not allowed locally, right? Can pass inspection too, yah? Cheers.
Zrun Neutral Newbie June 25, 2003 Share June 25, 2003 introducing water droplets into the combustion chamber. Are you sure this is possible? The idea behind hydro locking is that 1 teaspoon of water will boil, and become like 1 liter of air within combustion chamber, causing unusually high pressure, and throwing off the timing, and all moveable parts break. I heard that introducing little water into the intake manifold will cause steaming in the engine and breaks apart carbon for cleaning (very controversial). I think any amount of water in the engine will lower the HP/torque by alittle due to the added (useless) pressure.
Jimmyl Neutral Newbie June 26, 2003 Author Share June 26, 2003 You can check out water injection topics on the net. I am talking about moisturizing the air not drown the engine
Zrun Neutral Newbie June 26, 2003 Share June 26, 2003 I see.. I searched online and got more info.. Idea is to allow water mist to evaporate inside the turbo or supercharger, lowering the temperature. The lowered temperature will increase little horsepower which will be offset by the moisture charge in the air. Due to the lowered temp, it is possible to push the psi even more, achieving more HP. Nice trick if you have turbo... Also read about people using water misting device on their intercooler... Abit overboard..
Saaber Neutral Newbie June 26, 2003 Share June 26, 2003 I have done water misting device on the intercooler before...it works..
Wbucket Clutched May 9, 2008 Share May 9, 2008 Hi, managed to dig up this old thread. Recently saw another engine enhancement using water. It is more on spiltting water into hydrogen and oxygen. Anyone here tried? http://millionaireinternet.com/1.html http://fuel-efficient-vehicles.org/FEV-hyd...r-build-one.php
Robin 4th Gear May 9, 2008 Share May 9, 2008 if u are interested u can visit a workshop near sembawang. the boss of the workshop has done something like this on his altis. he DIY a water cooling system
Dwoon 1st Gear May 9, 2008 Share May 9, 2008 Go check out the AQUAMIST. ALthough more useful for TC or SC cars.... I heard that there are some advantages in NA ones. Some malaysian cars have a DIYed mist system of this nature. Of course its cheaper .... but don't ask me about it as I do not have the details. Rb26dett Clutched May 10, 2008 Share May 10, 2008 eh i have used such cooling mist before.i thought its usually use on intercoolers with either on/off switch or according to set boost level?
Dwoon 1st Gear May 12, 2008 Share May 12, 2008 That's a different one. The one you're referring to is the intercooler spray. Somethimes also employed to spray onto the radiators. These are all "external" spray systems. The Aquamist is a mist injection into the combustion chamber. Different thing. ↡ Advertisement
