if Apple release a camera-less iphone ... they will be lynched by the media 3 times over.

i guess only here, you find company's forbidding employees from using camera phones, which resulted in camera-less phone market for these people.

A class action suit will be filed if this were to happen in US.

i would like Apple to come up with a - iPhone Nano ... which has bare essentials like phone/sms/2mp camera w video/3G for MMS & video call/ ... but without browser/wifi. .. .and come up with an innovative click wheel style numpad for calls and sms. And sell it for USD99.

or

iPhone Pro - which includes all current iphone features, + built-in Bose speakers + Shure/ipod bluetooth A2DP stereo headset + Nikkor lens w Canon Cmos 5mp sensor camera + Aperture lite software built in. :)

Bro, you are wrong about the prohibition of camera phone is only prevalent in Singapore. Throughout the world there are many organisations which forbid camera phones. All military installations for instance and those dealing with sensitive, both national security or trade information will also impose this requirements. There is actually a market for this but am not sure about the size though.

even if 3rd party software is available, a bit useless to use the rear cam for vid call as u cannot see the screen(& the other party) right? .. kinda defeats the whole purpose of the Video call intention leh

Hey! So what do you have? I got a 24in iMac and a white MB. Apple TV, a couple of ipods and airport express basestations. The thing I like about Apple is they make things so easy to use and fuss free. But then I wun be getting the 3G iPhone because employer do not allow camera phone. If ever they have a non-camera version, I am sure it will make a lot of people like me very happy.

hey.. i got a dead powerbook... then a ibook still working(home use and running old tiger!), whitey macbook(office use-admin stuff) and macbook pro(design) for work..

new features,

- 2.0 firmware (allowing you to download on the fly 3rd party software directly to your iphone ... some free, some you have to pay via telco)

- A GPS

- HSDAP, UTMS, GSM,

- hardware volume control buttons (1st gen is via touch screen)

- 3.5mm phonejacks ... no adapter required.

- slightly different form factor

- 5 hour talk time on 3G, 10 hours on 2G

- comes in black (8G or 16GB) or white (16GB only).

- new super small charger adapter with dual input source (USB or 2pin power)

- starting price only US$199 (S$269) with 2 year plan for the 8GB ... in spore, i think the price will not defer much, probably about S$298 with GST with iTwo or above plan, or US$348 with iOne plan. Or S$468 for the 16GB. This is just my speculation.

I doubt its going to be that cheap when singtel launch it. I heard its about 600+ wif contract. Buying without contract is not possible for the time being...

major gripes,

1. no video recording - I carry a small Digital Camera with video function in car

2. no MMS - don't send by MMS, sent by e-mails using lap-top

3. no cut & paste function - I don't need it

4. no physical keyboard - I like the touch screen

Yes, I will buy when the price drop six months after initial launch..... cos, I don't use the functions as stated by u..... sly.gif

I like the slim look, touch screen and most of the time, I only use the phone to call and answer calls and very few SMS..... nod.gifnod.gifnod.gif

Er...lidat, use public phone better...if need to send sms...use snail mail lolaugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif

HTC Diamond costs over $1k, while iPhone should be less than $500~

Don't think the features in Diamond is worth tat much

I think many people misinterpreted the price, but some may be aware of it already. When they say the iphone is USD199, it means USD199 with a 2 year contract. iPhones will not and cannot be sold legally without a contract. Therefore, those who wants the iPhone needs to be a Singtel customer(if not already 1).

The Diamond is $1098 as retail price. With a 2 year contract, it will be cheaper by.... i dunno, mabbe $598. I tried my friend's iPhone, and I have to say that the touch screen is by far the best among all others' I have tried(HTC,LG,Dopod,O2, etc). The iPhone definitely have a better build(hardware), but in terms of software..... It certainly lacks the features. Which is why I am in a dilemma between buying the 2. I know there are many 3rd party apps out there which can overcome these shortcomings, but why must apple be so anal to make consumer go the extra mile just to make it normal?

In the end, the beauty of it has overcomed my concerns of its lacking in functionality and features. I went down to singtel to make my reservations. [laugh]

SH n M2 will get it eventually, but defintely after ST~ only qn is how long...

weird thing is with the US199 pricing, its even cheaper than its other range of Apple products~

How sure are you? I doubt SH or M1 is ever gonna see it in their inventory. Since the launch of the first iPhone in US, AT&T has been the only authroized provider until today. None for Sprint or MCI.
