I will definitely reply to all those who help me but not to someone out of nowhere with such attitude. She is one who must win type in every argument.

I'm just helping someone as they are not well to do to employ tutor since I have interest in it

Stop dodging questions, are you a tutor? No, you helping for free? Seriously if you're are a tutor, this is disturbing and totally unprofessional.

I don't know you nor do I know the other party, but from the exchanges, its very interesting to note that perception varies from person to person.

I am just replying to your post cause you're the TS.

It is an intelligent thing to do, when you need answers when you don't have a necessarily good resource, is to approach and open market to get as much possibilities as possible to your query. Now, along with the said answers you got, it comes along with people who may or may not have the answer, and contribute their opinion or remarks. Its inevitable when you don't have a target market for your questions.

If you are indeed a tutor, I am glad you are making the effort to find out the answers to a question. now how you teach it to your student to derive the solution, thats your skill of which I, and many others here may not have. If you have the skill, great, if not then all the best and hope you learn how to do it better as you progress.

As for the number of times the TS has posted such questions on these forum, it only proves that the TS still doesn't have a resource required to solve such questions. I believe there no such thing as a stupid question, but quite possibly a stupid person.( I wasn't referring to TS [:p] )

As for the number of times someone asks questions of the same nature, I can see two probables, 1) TS doesn't want to do own home work and just gets it the easiest way possible

2) Has gone through so many types of questions that there are bound to be some that are tough to solve. its just simply Law of Large numbers, not averages. If you have a big enough pool of people, you're bound to find enough idiots. and the larger the pool of people, the more idiots you'd probably find. So in internet, where there is a very large pool of people, idiots abound.

So no one here can tell if the TS is a tutor, only presumption (so far), and no one can confirm if the TS has a large pool of questions to go through regularly that there are bound to be more tough questions than if someone were to go through a smaller pool of questions.

So thats the TS' integrity that the forumers here are testing/questioning in relation to the number of times you have posted these type of questions. Either that, or they think the TS is dumb to ask questions so often and should not be a (presumed) tutor.

at the same time, its fair for parents to want to have their best for their child of even children in general. who is to say that asking a question on the forum is not creative and its definitely not standard school curriculum to look for answers in places where no one else has thought of before? Its also a fair concern that someone who is not qualified to teach, should either improve or don't teach a subject they are not familiar with. I don't know of anyone here or anywhere else who didn't learn to walk by NEVER falling more than a certain number of times.

Btw, is there a pre-requisist to the number of mistakes a person shouldn't make/ or questions not asked to even begin to start qualifying themselves for something they want to do? its like, Son, you tried to walk 11 times, but now that you have fallen again for the 12th time, I think you better give up walking, cause you're not qualified to do so. mom and dad did it in 8-10 times so now we can walk. sorry.. you can't. :-| ???????

If one is quick to judge with the minimum amount of information available to make an intelligent guess, not that the TS is a tutor, BUT that a tutor who asks too many questions is not qualified, would this trait of judging things before getting enough facts ALSO be "taught" to the child? I don't know the perfect answer, but I would think that giving room to clarify before passing an opinion or judgement would be more appropriate than otherwise.

And as much interest I had in going through this thread, its beginning to get personal without actually solving any issues, other than the TS getting the answer to his really interestin question.

No, i'm not saying things for the sake of saying (expected this from you when i typed my previous post). I do not believe in "learning how to think" from someone, I believe in providing an answer (the objective) and subsequently let the kid find his own way to "why" the answer is such (let him think his own way)...which ties in to my previous talk abt goals and thought development. Now THAT is what i call thinking.

i do not believe if a kid can pass an exam, he leanrs nothing. Surely he has learned something. Even a kid who failed would have had his brain stirred up a little (that's thinking) and learned something along the way. He might not have learned what the teachers wanted him to learn, but he DID learn something.

I can testify to that. I was a lousy student myself. but currently doing better than some of those top-student schoolmates of mine. so yeah, all i need are teachers who provides schooling if that's how u put it. i don't need them to teach my kid "how to think". in fact, i dont want them to.

hey, i'm beginning to feel we actually have the same objectives (yeah it's that goal thing again), just taking different paths towards them.

anyway, this is getting boring. Good disscussion. Learned something from you, i hope u did from me too.

Cheers.

Be smart in forum is ok, but don't be too smart.

err, I don't know if thats an admission that she has you figured out?

Anyway, in all fairness, from nov1mum's postings, we can see some sound and logical reasonings being put up, whether we agree or not is besides the issue. More importantly, she is upfront with her views and displays a willingness to stand by them.

On the other hand, you started to scream your head off even before you can put up a proper defence for yourself.

Actually, all we need to hear from you is whether you are a tutor to end all these. But up till now, nothing definitive from you, just skirting here and there.

I'm just helping someone as they are not well to do to employ tutor since I have interest in it.

This is the best answer I can find to our burning question. Can I safely assume that you are indeed tutoring, just doing so without the money? Tutoring without renumeration doesn't mean we can do away with the basic professionalism associated with it. I stand to be corrected on my point.

I do not usually post. I do now because I remember providing an answer to some of your problem sums posted, the first one as far back as last year. Yes, get your act together man, it's already been a year.

In fact, I registered on this forum because I wanted to contribute, being very interested in Math. Now I feel a little being made use of.

Aiyo, both of you are essentially saying the same things lah

She says: Come boy, lemme tell you what the steering wheel, the accelerator and the brake does before I let you explore driving a car by yourself.

You say: Come boy, you are now seated in the driver's seat. Go drive now.

Even a kid who failed would have had his brain stirred up a little (that's thinking) and learned something along the way. I think hor, that was what she was trying to say when she mentioned "assessment for learning". haha, just my observations, don't flame me!

I am helping niece only.

Thanks for your help then. I was too wrong on my end but it is the attitude of hers.

Now you say it's your niece.

Much as I'd like to believe you, I find the contents of your postings too inconsistent(or grossly vague, to give the benefit of doubt) for comfort. I think we can't be bothered to ask you to come clean anymore, but the fact remains you had adequate time(at least a year) to hone your craft but didn't.

For now, at the very least, please get your act together, for your niece's sake or anyone else that you tutor for that matter.

Anyway, thanks for your reply.

That clarifies alot. I guess that it's ok to ask questions for your niece. As long as one don't make money out of free stuff they're given.

Had a bad experience when a acquantaince were asking freebies from us, and we wonder why he need so many and regularly. Yes we gave him the benefit of doubt, since it's freebies.. Later found out he actually sold the freebies to his customer, and that's where we stop talking.
