Lorinser 1st Gear July 2, 2008 Share July 2, 2008 There are a few Tibet tour operators but not sure which one is better as we know very little about Tibet. Seems like the itineraries are slightly different on cities. Anyone with good and bad experience? One thing I know is the altitude. Need to aclimatise fast, otherwise will have bad headache. ↡ Advertisement
Albeniz Turbocharged July 2, 2008 Share July 2, 2008 Not just bad headache. I heard of cases where people got hospitalized due to the altitude difference.

Albeniz Turbocharged July 2, 2008 Share July 2, 2008 I won't go to Tibet. I even have problems going up the winding routes in Cameron Highlands, ending up alomost vomitting, 2 times! Although the Tibet route may not be winding, I don't think I could take that altitude difference. I would give that place a miss. Age has caught up with me, life is more important. Thug Clutched July 2, 2008 Share July 2, 2008 Tibet is in one of my must-go places list. I'm really really interested in their burial ritual. The Vulture burial...saw a couple of leaked pictures from a tour guide during my ShangHai trip few years back. Heard its through a series of rough rough terrain bus ride and up mountain down mountain...b4 u can reached the sacred place...
Spikedoll Clutched July 2, 2008 Share July 2, 2008 Tibet is also one of my next holiday destinations..Looking forward to see the beautiful Yarlung Tsangpo Valley, the cradle of Tibetan civilization,Gyantse etc The Potala (7th century), a white and ochre fortress, dominates the town of Lhasa inside golden Monastery tibet Plateau Avalokitesvara bodhisattva Thangka festival
Lorinser 1st Gear July 2, 2008 Author Share July 2, 2008 I heard about that too. Maybe not oxygen but compressed air prepared at sea level I agree with some people that Tibet is a must go place, just that I do not know which tour agent is better. I think some tour even take the high altitude train ride to Tibet. Cool. Hopefully someone here can provide some info.

Tortoise777 Neutral Newbie July 2, 2008 Share July 2, 2008 (edited) I went Tibet with ASA holidays last Aug. However, I do NOT recommend ASA. The train journey via Qingzang train on the highest railway track in the world was exciting due to the stunning scenery along the way to Lhasa. U get to experience 4 seasons in a day! Make sure u book for the 4 in 1 cabin "soft seat" but not the 6 or 8 in 1 "hard seat". 1/3 of my tour mates were headache and not well when we hit 3000m+ above sea level, including me But no worries, as the cabins are oxygenised, u can simply plug the plastic tube to the wall mounted oxygen supply and breath as much as u want. I reckon travelling to Tibet is a great experience Edited July 2, 2008 by Tortoise777
Wind 1st Gear July 2, 2008 Share July 2, 2008 try not to go with tourgroup. my group just need 2 to form. but end up i join the mainland group for the 6 days in Tibet. try to search on net to see if u can find the local tibetan guides. meet them in tibet instead. anyway not much difference if u go with local agent. u will just go there and meet their agent there your self. The local tibetan guide will just handle small groups and normally move ard in 4x4 vehicle. i suppose cost a bit more, but is worth it. to combat the altitude sickness, when in Chengdu, get this Gao Yuan An medicine. its pretty effective. My wife and I survived without any problem at all :)
Ehonda Neutral Newbie July 2, 2008 Share July 2, 2008 as what wind said, get the Gao Yuan An medicine .. u can get there when u are at Tibet .. taking Pandalo is useless .. i went there with Chan Brother and Ivy Lee last year July.. not all people wl hv high altitude sickness .. average people take 2 to 3 days to get use to the high altidue .. try not to bath on the first day .. if want, dont bath with hot water ( i mean hot ) .. some photos for viewing .. wl try to post some more .. now going to [inline IMG_0001.JPG] the crew member [inline IMG_0002.JPG] [inline IMG_0003.JPG] [inline IMG_0004.JPG]
