Wanna get some feedback on the price of high grade 1 carat diamond ring. I saw some at SK Jewel today and the IGI specs and prices are:

 

$99++ : Colorless Grade (grade D-F), White gold ring, Clarity (VS1 or VS2)

$75++ : 2nd Colorless Grade ( G-J), White gold ring, Clarity (VS1 or VS2)

Any other good jewel shops to consider? (beside the top notch Tiffany )

 

I believe the $99++ is just the starting price.

 

Besides the size, two very important things that will determine the "shine" is colour and cut.

 

If it is a perfect cut, you will need at least a 5 figure for D colour and at worse VS1. If it is just a good cut, it can be lesser than that.

 

I know some people view clarity as unimportant...but it does make a difference to the brilliancy. But between VVS1 and VS1, it is hard to tell the difference. But once you go itno SI, you will notice it. Try to limit it to VS1.

 

As for colour, I would only accept D or E. But I know some people want size only....even G is ok. So up to each preference. I prefer brilliancy than just sheer size alone.

 

I recently bought a a perfect cut, D colour VS1. 0.7 carat at 6k++. You can even get something better than perfect cut...for example the Rosella series (89 facet cut) at Citigems if you have the budget.

It depends on whether the diamond is for ring or for bracelet or earrings.

 

For discussion purpose we talk about solitaire ring

 

Color preferably should be colorless range so F will give you best value

 

Clarity VS2 will give you best value. But must look though loupe and pick the one you like best becos 2 stones with VS2 grade can be quite different

 

Cut Polish and Symmetry should go for Excellent becos these greatly determine the fire and brilliance. a triple excellent stone is very beautiful to look at as it fires from all angles and truly brings out what a diamond is about.

Becos I buy diamonds with no intention to sell.

and havent sold one before.

 

but the jeweller I buy from is highly reputable and ready to take the stone back at purchase price as long as it does not represent a loss to him base on market prices which is acceptable to me.

He is also willing to reset the stone any time if sizing is an issue.

 

When buying good size diamonds, dont bother with chain stores like citigems, lee hua, etc

the diamond prices in the world are manipulated because there is one major player that is controling the price and quantity that is coming to into market

those in the know

the only diamonds that are worth their weight are those that many of us cant afford

the ones we buy in the shops are generally more decorative

thought they have certain intrinsic value but when crisis hits

diamond is not a readily exchangeable commodity like gold

 

this is not to belittle diamond

but just to say like buying a piece of art

you must like it first

My advise is if got budget, start from 0.5 carat 1st. Coz when comes to diamond, females will only accept upsize and not downsize.

 

Now buy 1 carat, next time bigger and so on. LOL

As explained in anotehr thread, I prefer always to use personal experience to make a point.

 

so very often we hear of people who say," my friend this, my friend that" when they themselves actually never expereince it before.

If they have done it and make a comment on it , dont you think it is more believable and of higher integrity.
