I have experience living in Australia and hopes the below can of some help to you :

Pro

===

- space ( big house, big car, big neighbourhood, big park, etc. )

- education ( if you think open style is good, i.e. not spoon feed )

- food ( good vietnamese food, beef, fresh fruits, abalone, lobster, etc. )

Con

===

- different ( up to you whether you can adjust and adapt or not )

- somewhat 2nd class citizen

One major reason why I didn't continue to live there = not certain about my source of income there can be stable and continuous. So, come back lor.

Working and migrating is 2 entire different things, I don't think you should lump them up in the same decision making tree.

Working overseas is just working overseas.. nothing to it. [;)]

At least I never regretted.

I want to work and live there but I do not want to disown my citizenship. My consent is on my family because I will bring them there too. Another word, I will not return to Singapore unless something important or festive season.

Need some advise from you guys who are or used to stay in Australia. Me doing my research before going there.

What is the standard living in Australia?

Hope for your advise.

Personal tax rate very high compared to Singapore. If you are working for Sg co and are seconded there, make sure you get tax equalisation. But if you joining Aussie firm there, then be prepared to pay lots of taxes.

lifestyle pace. much much slower.

good working hours, leave on the dot.

most business/shop close around5-6pm sans late nite shopping day.

income tax about 40%?

kenna discriminate because u aint white.

If you work in australia, decision to settle there can be made after a couple of yrs.

True that tax is higher than Singapore, but also consider what's your net income after taxes.

If my net income is the same working in Singapore and Australia (after correcting for currency exchange) I will still work there. The lifestyle is better. The cost of living can be kept to as low as Singapore.

Interest rates over there are much higher. Good if you know how to be financially prudent and save your money in fixed deposit accounts.

I thought of this before also (the sentence in bold)...but sometimes even as a locally bred Singaporean, I dun feel being treated like a 1st class citizen also..

Agree..I dun understand why a lot of singaporeans always grumble abt high income taxes in some of this countries...one shld look at the overall net income after taxes and not just look at the tax rate..for example, while staying in australia some yrs ago due to study, I found out that the starting pay of a uni grad in Australia after taxes is almost equal to Singapore's or only slightly lower. Let's assume tat it is slightly lower, this is still somewat compensated by the significantly cheaper housing and car ownership over there..ultilities are cheaper there as well..senior citizens also get to enjoy a lot of subsidies in health care and etc etc..the only thing one shld learn to pick up over there is to learn how to prepare your own meals as it can be quite expensive to dine out everyday..

I think you need to see if your current working industry is active over there? If you can easily find a job there and there is a big market then you decide if you wanna to move there.

Aussie salary a bit higher than Sin for the same job. But throw in the tax and you will take home a lot less.

Take for example:

For Aussie taxable income > A$80k, your first $80k is at 22.5% and thereafter at 40%.

http://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/content....ntent/12333.htm

Compare that to Singapore, first S$80k is taxed at 5.375% and 14% thereafter.

http://www.iras.gov.sg/irasHome/page03.aspx?id=1190

The diff is quite a lot. Whoever is making a decision needs to look at the tax rates and see if your take home pay after taxes will suffer a lot.

I think Aussie daily necessities are slightly higher than Singapore eg eating out. I think their bigger ticket items eg car, housing may be comparable or cheaper (esp car).

Of course not everything is about $. Need to consider other intangibles eg lifestyle, slower pace of life. But need to factor $ in also else you may get a rude shock there when you realise your take home has shrunk so much because of taxes.

Happy planning.
