thanks for the advice, one of my buddy just change to Sonar, cheap at $60. can see that the tyre thread is a bit thin...i forsee the grip deteriorate after 10k, but neber use b4 so want to see any comments on these tyres.

if like that, maybe spend more to get DZ101 or Eagle F1 liao.

Tyres are the last place you should skimp on. You can save on petrol, parking, ERP, accesories, .... but not tyres.

I've never used Sonar or Nankang and dont intend to, ever - unless user reviews vouch for their quality. For 20-30 dollars more, I can get a tyre from an established tyre company. I think that 20-30 dollars is worth every cent.

If you really have to save on tyres and your daily mileage is high, at least get a good brand, with a higher UTQG rating. Get the most expensive, grippiest tyres that your budget allows.

I am quite skeptical about reviews.

Recently CAS carried Runway tires and it cited the good review from Carma magazine.

But one of the forumers here used it and reported that the tyres skidded for quite a few times within his short period of usage.

So that is 1 (magazine review) vs 1 (consumer review)

How many users of Nankang, Sonar or Runway are there in Singapore and the world.

I think it is more important that the driver learn to drive with in the limits of the car, the tyre, his ability and constrains imposed by the prevailing road conditions.

According to the driver, he was traveling in the MSCP when the skidding took place.

The speed can't be too fast. I was tempted to get the Runway tires until I read his comment. The price of the tire is attractive.

I agree - I think anyone should be wise enough to know that reviews featured in magazines are slightly biased. Also, personally, these reviews carry little weight - because most reviews are not based on long-term usage. So are reviews from 'users' - I think you gotta sift through the tons of useless information if you want to get any useful information. Descretion is the word.

Having said that if I read hundreds of posts or reviews saying that Nankang or Sonar is good, then they probably are good - and I might consider buying them.

I guess my point is that you get what you pay for. "Cheap" and "good" rarely come together, especially for tires.

i was the TS for the above mentioned thread. the pair of runway was given by the ex-owner.dunno he siao or wad. front runway, rear aspec db!

for myself i wont even consider brands that u have mentioned before.

so after enduring the tires for 1 month, i finally bth change it to gy eagle f1. needless to say the performance is satisfying.

I'm on Sonar. As far as I know, Sonar has 2 types of tyres. The sporty V threaded type and the normal thread.

Grip

Dry = Good

Wet = Below Average.

Pro

Cheap. $90 each for 195/60/R15 1 year ago.

Wear-resistant. 12000km and still looking good. Wear is abt 15% front. 10% rear.

Fuel economy. Slight improvement of about 0.5 - 1 km/l (Over previous NCT3 Goodyear which is softer and grippier)

Cons

Not for fast cornering. It squeals.

Ride a bit rough.

Noisy

Ugly looking

Summary. Good economical tyres. Suitable for family car. Travel speed <100km/h.
