Thanks for the tips so far. At least I am more confident now of what to expect.

However I am staying at a budget hotel the Fenix Inn which is very near to the Equatorial hotel and I am not too sure about the parking facility there. Do you guys think I can park over at the Equatorial overnight even tough I am not a guest there and what are the charges like?

Thanks.

I've been to Malacca couple of times because I really fall in love with the chendol at Jonker Street. It is a MUST try. (Bewarn its really sweet stuff)

Another MUST try is the chilli crab at Portuguese Settlement. specifically stall no 88 which was recommended to me by the locals. I tried it, and really its fantastic. the chilli fragrance is something that you will never get it in singapore. Of course, be prepared its burning hot. Just ask the hotel staff how to get to Portuguese Settlement. I'm sure they will show you the directions.

The night market at Jonker street on Fri/Sat nights are worth your time too. There are couple of small pubs with Ang Mos/locals having fun, playing music, beer and BPL Live!! Its quite a friendly sight and makes you feel like joining them at the pub..

Well.. enjoy the drive up and the food at malacca.. although shopping wise, its not fantastic, but its still a good short getaway and more importantly, if you love to drive, you'd love heading to malacca.. =)

hows holiday inn in terms of security for the car

Did some studies on car-jacking/ theft in Melaka with a close fren who has a 'rich' heritage there.. found that Melaka is a sleepy, old town with little/ no such worries..

i put up @ Renaissance, but was curious about the new Holiday Inn so drove to the coast and took a peek. Below are my observations,

- Must agree that most cars are Sg owned.

- Did not see any security

- No barrier to parking in the open lot- where i parked (surface level to lobby, absence of levelled parking)

- cars drove via an open space beside the hotel to enter the basement carpark (level to the sea) - from my observation at the open lot, not sure if there is any barrier, but i doubt it.

Any bro who has been there, pls advise. [thumbsup]

eh... i noticed that although holiday inn doesnt have barriers their security patrol quite often so no worries! [;)]

Bro can describe how to get to Holiday Inn after exit toll at Ayer Keroh? We are planning either Renaissance or Holiday Inn?

And anyone know which has a nicer pool? [laugh]

I'm attending my friend's wedding dinner in Malacca, and he help me booked this hotel. The car park is a open space public car park. Any safety issue?

You can go to the Equatorial Hotel website, there is a very clear direction with pictures and sketches leading you all the way to the hotel and I think the hotels you mention should be along the way before the Equatorial Hotel.

Btw I am leaving tomorrow morning for Melaka, First time driving up North [cool]

Renaissance will be a easier hotel to find, cause after the toll u will be at this one way road and the hotel is on the right. but from this hotel if u wanna go to the town area will walk quite a distance
