Hi [wave]

My dad is going through this surgery soon, although my mum and i advised him to think

twice but sometimes it can get too painful for him.. Also i did some seraching online, and read that this is actually quite common.

Well, anyone or whose family/relatives been thru this surgery b4?

Neutral Newbie

Hi,

mine was removed abt 4yrs ago...no big deal...not really that painful...best to do with keyhole surgery, little blood lost and very small scars...was discharged within 24hrs...my doctor at gleneagles...keyhole surgery is expensive but quick recovery and less pain.

let me know if you want the contact of the doctor.

GB removal, aka cholescystectomy is common now and is a pinhole thru the scope. 2 small incisions done thru the abd and the gb incised ioff and removed...would take baerly 2 hrs.

after that he might have to go for ercp for clearacne of the ducts and check patency....

dun worry too much....simple procedure...

Ya, my dad told me that there are 2 ways to do it.

1 is by the keyhole method mentioned by someone here,

another 1 is by normal surgery if they found out that the gall bladder is not

in a ideal position. Which is why, the doctor did ask my dad to sign an

agreement to go ahead with the surgery if the 'keyhole' is not successful..

The doc will not wake him up to wait for the decision.

the stent was put in thru ercp.... this is done so that 1) the stone can flow out 2) to lessen the pain. This is because the surgery will not be immediate, there should be a month or 2 of waiting time.

After surgery, there will be another ERCP to remove the stent.

AFter surgery, i was up and running after 2-3days........ you want to see the scar....
