What was I surprised about?????

Last night I attended an arty farty concert at the Esplanade...

After the concert, was waiting at basement 1, the driveway from the carpark. Standing beside me was a boy, looks mixed blood, he apparently a performer at the concert I attended, looking at what he wore. He was also waiting, probably for his parents to pick him up. Then an light blue Toyota Altis drove up... guess who was the driver, the boy's father.... the car stop, the driver just adjacent to me, nodded his head at me, smiled and waved, I reciprocated..... the surprising thing is, the boy's father is Mr. Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources.....

Now that was the biggest surprise for me..... a minister driving a Toyota Altis.....

=======================

This cud b one of his OTHER cars he drive when he get bored of his 3 series Merc. [sly]

So?...what is your point?

Mini-Star MUST drive ex and conti cars is it?

Maybe you didn't follow him to see what other cars he had parked in his large BUNG-GA-LOW! [sly][laugh]

Someome also drives a Honda, a white one [sly] .... but he has a convoy of Volvos and Mercs and BMs to accompany him...so what does it this seem to you then? [laugh][laugh][laugh][laugh][laugh]

A moron only draws conclusive deduction from what he see upfront...afterall, being rich doesn't guarantee you with a all knowing hind sight whne all you see is what you want to see!

====================

Maybe his limo was in the WS for repairs or blocked by all his other limos so he just grabbed the easiest available car around, which happened to b his servants car that was parked outside his bungalow. [laugh][laugh][laugh]

My point is, I WAS FARKING SURPRISED!!!!!!!!

There was no body guards, he was driving alone, there was no convoys or escorts.... just like you or me driving to pick up our friends, children or relatives after a show....

My post has no other hidden meanings or whatsoever and this post of mine does not mean i a supoorter of the governement or opposition.... u danmed nitwit!!!!!

=====================

But I must say some of the Elites r quite humble. They r the exception rather than the norm. [:)]

Normal minister don't get bodyguard...unless they are on official visit overseas.

===================

All the Ministers I saw had at least an assigned bodyguard who doubles up as a driver. But they can b relieved by the Minister unless he has "special instructions" to b at his side at all times. [sly]

The MPs dont have this "privilege".

Maybe he think its not worth to spend big bucks on a car that basically only good in bringing one from point A to B. Everyone has different sets of priorities and his could be on other stuffs such as his living environment, retirement plans etc.

===================

I also multi-millionaire used to drive a COE Corona. Now I drive a humble Optra Estate what.

Not everybody desires a big & flashy car to move from point A to B. Some very rich pple I know drive simple day to day cars only as a car is a depreciating asset N does not make more money for you.

It's not an Altis, it's a Steel blue Toyota Prius hybrid, Mr Yacoob has been driving it for years now. I think it suits his portfolio as Minister for environment.

======================

Ahhhhh......So.

Now we r getting a clearer picture. [sly]

So that is his "official" car as Env Minister. FOC to get & use prob.

So naive!! So surprised? That's what happens to inconsequential members.

Not surprising lah. George Yeo was driving a COE Honda Concerto. Lee Hsien Loong a Honda Accord when he was DPM and he drove himself.

Its a unwritten rule that PAP ministers cannot be too flashy and that applies to MPs too. Dr Lily Neo used to drive a Jaguar before entering politics, and she was"encouraged" to change before election. Then she change to Alfa Romeo.

Arthur Fong drives a BMW 5 series only becos he is a Pte banker and I believe company pays for that car.

In the older days, Chng Jit Koon (Minister of State) drove a Toyota Corona and Honda Accord Exi.

Only MM Lee car is more upmarket, a Lexus LS

But when these ministers travel, its different matter.... its First Class on SQ!
