Eggy Neutral Newbie December 19, 2008 Share December 19, 2008 Imagine a scenario where you own a shop and a customer wants to pay for his $18 item. Knowing that you do not have enough change, he shoved a $1000 bill right at you. At this kind of situation, noting the fact that he wanted to pay but you do not have enough change for him, can he just walk away with this unpaid items? What else can you do? ---- The above situation happened to my parents' small business and I hope that I can do something to help them to prevent this from happening. Any bros can help? Would really appreciate. Thanks! ↡ Advertisement
Karpi Neutral Newbie December 19, 2008 Share December 19, 2008 Tactful reject is the key here. having bigger note does not entitle the consumer to take things away "FREE" from the shop, this is very obvious explanation, isn't it?
Scoots 3rd Gear December 19, 2008 Share December 19, 2008 (edited) It sounds like a case of a difficult customer so I don't see a point in being so accomodating 1. right NOT to sell. 2. payment/change in kinds. 3. Call the police and report shoplifting. (He DIDN'T pay right?) Edited December 19, 2008 by Scoots
Yaloryalor 5th Gear December 19, 2008 Share December 19, 2008 Ask him to buy more items so to reach $1K amount.
Mazdaowner Moderator December 19, 2008 Share December 19, 2008 How can you let him walk away with the goods? So if I put a 10k bill, shop no change, I can take 1k of items and walk off? No logic mah, ask customer to go change with banks nearby if he really wants the item, if shop can accept Nets, then suggest to customer. Walk out with item is shoplifting. Tkseah Turbocharged December 19, 2008 Share December 19, 2008 Tactful reject works if the item has yet to be consumed.. but say if it's at a makan place and food already consumed.. how leh??
Sturtles 6th Gear December 19, 2008 Share December 19, 2008 This kind of customer, i think should be not singaporean.. mostly from some other parts of the world where such practice is condone. I just have to bring a 10k note around, and run around mom and pop shops for free goods.
Eggy Neutral Newbie December 19, 2008 Author Share December 19, 2008 (edited) Erm, Sorry. I think i missed out a big point on my description earlier. (was trying to come out with a variation of the situation) My parent's business is a kind where you get the service first then you pay. Think 'K-BOX'. In such cases where the customer has already received his/her service, what can my parents do ? Edited December 19, 2008 by Eggy

To take away unpaid items = Stealing Tell that customer politely that you have no change for his BIG NOTES and request him to go & change into smaller ones while at the sametime tell him that you'll reserve the item for him if he is interested to deal Edited December 19, 2008 by Mzrmazda3
Eggy Neutral Newbie December 19, 2008 Author Share December 19, 2008 Yeah I was thinking of calling the police and report that customer for not paying for something he received. But that customer can always argue that he tried to pay but it is YOU that do not have the change.
Quekahwhye Clutched December 19, 2008 Share December 19, 2008 Tell him now you intend to sell it at $2000 but give him 50% discount or tell him your shop had "Keep the changes" rule.
Mazda664422 Neutral Newbie December 19, 2008 Share December 19, 2008 close shop better.Your father mother do business not knowing how to handle this kind of situation. Service rendered but no change, no petty cash box? die die must take that 1k note and break it down. Use your brain la.
Mazdaowner Moderator December 19, 2008 Share December 19, 2008 Call the police, only thing you can do. Do your parents HOLD anything from the cust7omers for the booking? e.g. IC, drivers license etc?? Best way is to collect payment prior, if big notes, then collect first and have it changed, return to customer when they finish. Always best to collect payment first. A lot of chow kar around. Jamjammer Neutral Newbie December 19, 2008 Share December 19, 2008 Halo, Apply for NETS and other credit card facilities. Sometimes, it's worthwhile to pay a "small" fees (depends on your scale of biz) to have such payment system than headache over this. Also, could tie-up with these payments for more marketing and business

In such cases where the customer has already received his/her service, what can my parents do ? Actually your parent can try taking the $1000 to other shops to change into smaller changes. If allow, try to get the customer to pay by NETs or credit .
Eggy Neutral Newbie December 19, 2008 Author Share December 19, 2008 Im certainly sure my parents would have think of that but there aren't any other shops around the area... that MF is out to make things difficult.. damn. Sigh. I guess what they can really do is to take the bill and die die go somewhere to have it broken down. ↡ Advertisement
