Though I dont have a biz of my own. Think that implementing a payment system may have its advantages like:

1. keep lesser cash at the premise so reduce the probabilities of theft, robbery and the hassale to bank-in large sum of money (times are bad, even robbers will go for tens or hundreds of dollar man!)

2. Possible of tie-up so more biz, hopefully more revenue to cover the cost of the setup

3. Facilitate biz as pp tends to carry lesser cash

4. In this case, solve the problem on these idiots that try to pull a fast one by using $1000 bills or even $10,000 bill [rifle]

Otherwise, change the way to do biz. Everyone need to pay up first else service would not be rendered. Nowaday, this practice is acceptable. Just like staying in hotel, pay up in credit card or cash as guarantee first before you got a room.

Hope this is constructive to your solutions [drivingcar]

Ask him for his IC or anything things he has that is around S$18 as a deposit ask customer to go to nearest atm to draw or go to bank to change for small change...else take his $1K and say need to go police as dun't know real note or not...

This type of ppl purposely one lah...who on earth will go makan 18 buck stuff and pay with 1K note....

aiyoh...next time, use this method.... trust me, this method works and it's legal, even call police also no use... my relative use this method back in KL when someone try to use this "big note" way to "con" for free service...

just take the 1K note, keep it, dont even tell him you do not have change... then pull out your checkbook and by now, he will start to get nervous.... if he didnt open his mouth asking u for option yet and show a yaya face still, write him a check for the balance and ask him fark off.. im sure by now, he is more [shocked] then u r.... dont forget, check is $$ and if he not happy, ask him go draw cash or borrow or rob as if u care... come back with the small note/check to exchange for 1K note .... if he threaten to call police, let him do the calling by passing him the phone and wait for police to come. period.

Hey thanks! thumbsup.gif

I think your suggestion to have a pay-first system is more feasible for now as long as their business is concern.

As with going with a cashless system, guess that requires more observations, planning and budgeting.. nod.gif

If you or your family not knowing how to do business, don't start one. Do your homework first. You have taken my suggestion yet claimed not useful ? Others have good suggestion like NETS you said extra cost. [hur] $18 Small problem want to call police. [hur] Customer use 1k note said difficult customer. [hur] Like that in 6 months you all will go [dizzy]

Aiyo,

Times have changed bro. Cashless transactions is thing to come especially for service company. Service coy rendered service that sometimes can be differentiated from competitors. Thus payment system is a hygiene factor - a must have if your competitors has it.

I'm against handling large pile of cash. It creates trouble and work. If your biz is already making money each month, I'm sure a small amount of transaction fees is a reasonable amount to stomach.

I remember during secondary school days. I've a gangster friend who only handles banking of cash for his parents biz - dealing in fresh fruits. Good for his parents as he is quite a gangster guy - lesser chance of robbery. Robbery and theft are real these days man!

Keep the $1,000 bill and let the the customer keep the item but in this case the customer should be more worried about the $982 change that you are owing him rather than you over the $18 item. Not unless that $1,000 bill is fake. You should be duly aware of this that no common man would produced a $1,000 bill for a $18 item, and letting you holding on to it while waiting for the changes.

Of course you have the right of rejecting his business but then what is the point of operating a business then?

Relax la, quite likely it's a family biz. U need to understand our older generations are against all these new methods of doing biz. It's takes time. I took lots of time to convince my parents on these new methods that is win-win yet they prefer the old ways.

There was such an issue about paying for goods & services using legal tender notes and denomination allowed. If I do not remember wrongly, MAS states that it is considered legal if the face value is smaller or equal to 200 times of the purchase. meaning u can use a $1000 note to pay for anything more than $5 and its considered legal. It sounds dumb but I think those guys at MAS knows what they are doing....ok, maybe not.

Anyway, lack of change from collector is more of a technical issue. The debt need not be resolved immediately but as long as both parties are in agreement that the debt exist and amount is correct, it can be paid on a later date. But in most cases when the amount is small, it might not be worth it to pursue the case. Also, there is a problem with the payee not honouring the debt and the legal process is lengthy and costly to recover the debt.

Nothing much the police can do here becos no crime have been committed and nobody have suffered a lost, yet. You have to understand that the police are enforcers, not arbitrators.

As mentioned by the brother above, issuing a cheque for the change seems like a very good idea. Seems perfectly legit and u can even counter-snook that A-hole. Also can draft a simple IOU on the invoice that he promise to pay up by when etc.

Then again, such cases are very very much minority or blue moon events that I would rather forsake the $18, paste a photo of him owing me the $$ in the shop (as long as I have proof that he owes me the $$) and not serve him in future unless payment is settled upfront.
