I thought its something to do with Guan Yin? coz her father or something became a cow in his next life.. i am not sure also.... just sharing wat i was told. Don't know the reason for not eating cow....but doubt it's for the same reason as Hinduism. Maybe farmers were too attached to their working cows and started a myth/tradition of not eating them. True Buddist dun eat meat or at least during the 1st n 15th moon. Heard of the saying on farmers and cows, think it is more toward being Chinese and/or since Buddhism originates from India, where cow is consider sacred animal? But still no one can clearly tell me the real reason.. Cos i have a colleague who says "i am buddhist so i cannot eat beef" when I ask why she said she don't know....
