Hi does anyone know the difference between the JDM & PI 06/07 WRX model?

I tried searching all around the internet for this answer but no one seems to really talk about it.

To my knowledge, JDM 2L has 250hp while the PI 2.5L has 230HP.

My questions are as to why the 2L has more HP? And thus i'm confused which model is a better platform for serious modification.

Anyone can help to clarify this? Thanks in advance!

dun really get you, u r comparing jdm auto rex?

where you get the 250hp from?

depends wat kind of mods you're going for and hardcore is your mod is.

how much hp increase you're looking at from a base rex?

you might get your answers from here: http://www.rexfactor.org

why 2.0 is 250bhp while 2.5 is 230bhp

is because the 2.0 is AUTO and called the S-GT while the 2.5 is called the WRX and is the 5spd manual, which is the one i'm driving now

as for your question which is the better platform for modification

i strognly support the STI

I think you are really confuse and at the same time confusing us.

All PI car is JDM and AD car is export models 2L 220bhp/225bhp and then later 2.5L 225/230bhp.

The 2L should be a better platform because JDM can use those Japan parts found in HyperRev mook.

As to why 2.5L gives lesser output : fuel in many parts of the world is 95RON and emission Euro 4 . Japan is 98RON/100RON [flowerface]

Sorry to mis-type the comparison. It should be PI(JDM) against AD.

The stock 250hp on the PI(JDM) model was mentioned on other international WRX forums. Saw several cars on sgcarmart with the specs too.

Btw i'm comparing only the base impreza wrx manual versions for 06 and 07 year. Not the new hatchback era.

Sorry for the confusion :P

Can i say that if i feed the 2.5L with RON98 or higher it would generate higher hp than the 2L?

Was about to start a thread on this. Japan regular = 89ron, super = 96 ron, and super plus = 100 ron

Only if the ecu will advance the timing sufficiently to churn out that power level.

JDM Rex 2.0....beside the Auto Rex brought in by MI, got PI bring in meh ?

In Japan their base Rex is using the EJ20 engine with AVCS (stand to be corrected) and the previous models are call WRX NBR. Why higher bhp...cos its JDM and they dun have to adhere to the intentional guide for emission. The EJ25 is for export and lower power cos of tuning etc to meet the emission standard.

Which is better for tuning ? JDM. Cos their ECU is "tuner friendly" than the Euro spec MI models.

japan regular = 89ron?? cuz i was wondering everytime i at petrol station i see mark x pump 98 or v power.. which mean that by right, even if pump shell 92 for those mark x, also can run smoothly with no probs?

Different cars are built to run on certain minimum RON fuel, else will have pinging.

Jap regular RON will not suit all their JDM cars.

Please refer to manual for your car's minimum Ron rating

I can vaguely remember the differences.

JDM WRX is 2l engine with 250PS. Differences, stock 17" rims as you seen on agent's STI. Standard rear wiper. Side signal indicator is on right side instead of left. The meter is optitron. Seat is blue/black alcantara which you see those in STI but do not have STI embrioery. Standard does not come with spoiler. Option is HID + Rear spoiler.

06/07 JDM WRX is damn rare. Only a 3-5 pieces in singapore. Most of them are sold by World of Wheels IIRC. JDM WRX can pump 98 in singapore.

Hope this helps.

Hey thanks for the info.. I think you've cleared all my doubts. [thumbsup]

Out of curiosity, how come the JDM can be allowed to be imported if it only meets Japan's emission? I thought Singapore follows international emission standards?

Just to add on...

JDM normally comes with better cabin trimmings...optitron meters, folding wing mirrors,OEM Clarion head unit and better seats...

It's a cultural thingy as the Jap normally reserve their best bits for their own domestic market unlike other Asian manufacturers....

The 06/07 Auto rex is a good example of these differences...

Rims are OEM Enkei, seats Recaro and aluminium bonnet...

It sits between the regular USDM rex and the all mighty STi...

Pricing is also bout there...in between...

But, despite highly tuned engine...

It's locked @ 180 km/h due to Jap law requirements...

That's easily overcome by the various aftermarket methods to remove this speed limiter snag...

Cheers!

Mark X needs a minimum of 98RON fuel to run without any engine knocking or retardation which is why you see Mark Xes pumping only 98 or VPower. For most other cars, 92 will suffice, but many other high performance cars (especially continental makes) require a minimum of 95 or even 98 RON.

Just side-tracking a bit....

It seems that most ppl are assuming that PI vehicles are JDM...True for some rare JDM only cars like Mark X,V-Spec GTRs but what bout the rest?

Firstly, these other cars ,are without doubt "Made in Japan"...but are they meant for THE Japanese Domestic Market or just hijacked from some other markets and brought into SG as parallel imports???

I noticed that these other "JDM" cars doesn't normally come with JDM trimmings and are retrofitted with almost everything like seat leathers,stereo/speakers,window tinting and stuff all in SG....Hmmmm!

Personally,I tried to close a deal on an RX8 with quite a few PIs and only 2 can get me the exact JDM specs at a completely different price...and we are talking simple stuff like 9-speaker Bose system to start with...

I believe that a JDM ride customer should be able to get it customised as per JDM options and get it all done there before the ride is shipped to SG..Otherwise, it'll be a just cheaper Japanese import not JDM....

I stand to be corrected as I noticed there are more and more dishonest PIs around and they are certainly not doing business "JDM" way...much less to deliver you a true JDM ride....
