Older RAM work better at RAMMING up the system also. Because the RAM is used, so got experience INSIDE the motherboard. [sly]

Bought a QUAD Speed processor computer few months back and my friend asked me not to load VISTA to optimize the speed. I decided to because VISTA looks nicer, (superficial, I know but I like) :P

Bring down, let them have a look, settle the problem, and the guess work on the RAM,

if RAM can go max 1GB per slot, then by all means, go all the way.

RAM not like hundred plus per piece like last time, now so cheap, nasi lemak

with fish and luncheon meat and one otah still cost more. [laugh]

Tomorrow Saturday, go get it done faster, boh working day again, sian half liow.

Tried a new 256RAM and the problem still persist. [smash]

I think I will not bother anymore and am now looking to buy a notebook lap top in the range of 1-1.3K .

The reason is because of it's mobility and portability which I can surf anywhere at home or outside with free internet connection.

What's the difference between a AMD processor and Intel processor huh ?

Price difference, personally, I prefer AMD over Intel.

Anyway, if interested, Challenger has some good deals on just CPUs,

Compaq. Notebooks, less then 1k Compaq / HP.

I'm going down later to get a mini notebook. Traveling, so the weight plays a part.

I've got a DIY Intel Core2 Duo Desktop, 1 Acer Pentium 3 notebook and 1 Atom 1.6ghz Asus EeePC.

The Acer NB HDD died on me recently. Thankfully, I still had a spare 2.5" notebook HDD. Managed to re-clone my previous data into the new HDD and it now works fine.

My DIY gave me the most headaches as I frequently do a lot of upgrading. So, if you're a no-nonsense person, I would think that a notebook would be better. After all, if the HDD crashes, you still have your System Recovery disk to bring it back to it's original state.

If you die die wan desktop, Giant Tampines Hypermart recently had a promotion, IIRC, a known branded desktop system + 18.5" LCD widescreen only $599...

If you want portability, go for the Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC). My EeePC has 10.5" LCD screen and a keyboard that is 85% of the regular keyboard size, which is sufficient for ordinary typing. Battery life is 7 hours without wireless and about 3-4 hours on wireless. UMPCs range between $599-$899 now IIRC.

BTW, the shop mentioned by the TS on the first reply, Video***, has lots of negative feedback, according to Hardwarezone forums....

The choice is yours, but I, personally won't go for Acer, I replaced a few systems in my office with Acer,

(prior- Compaq - Budget) and had nothing but problems, problems with the motherboard, compatibility etc..

not just one or two systems, 7 CPUs are Acer. After which, all replacements were back to Compaq, regardless.

My ex-server is a Compaq, still running as backup after 9 years now, and going strong.

My own home, all 4 CPS are Compaq, and 3 laptops are also Compaq. Touch wood, all still going strong.

Like I said, choice is still yours.

Am personally an advocate of anything but Acer as well. But if price is all it is, consider getting your laptops from H.Norman or B.Denki and get their extended warranty. Covered for 5 years IIRC

Owing to work, i go to the Acer service centre once in a while. Everytime I go there, it's almost always has more than 20 ppl waiting to have something fixed. Also have superb usage experience, as well as feedback from people using Acer. Not something I'd wanna put myself thru.

Must add on though, I have 1 friend who used an Acer lappie for 4 years without a single problem. Lucky him.

I had the company's laptop sent back after just one month of usage, and it wasn't heavy usage,

that was the one I use for testing my server. Took them 3 weeks to fix the problem.

Your friend lucky, should take the serial number and buy 4D.

So far, all the Acer I bought have given problems, one time or another.

Stopped purchasing them for the last 3 years now. [shakehead]

Looks like customers of Acer is 'heng suay' with more being 'suay'. My aunt had an Acer NB and everytime she used the touchpad, it gave her an electrical jolt. Serviced also not much of a change. Weird thing is that her new notebook is also an Acer! Heng it is still working well!

My Pentium 3 1.1ghz Acer NB still going strong after all these years...640mb RAM + 15gig hard disk nia. S3 Graphics card....ancient right?! My 4.5 year old girl using it to play her educational CD games and surfing web. Bootup time is like 3-5 minutes!

Just to check does mini laptop which run with intel atom chip provide any dvd rw feature?

IIRC, most mini laptop = UMPC, DO NOT have built in DVD/CDROM. Gotta buy an external one. I recommend Sony DRX-S70U.
