for me, if the design CMI, how good the FC is, I also won't be interested..most impt criterias when it comes to choosing car for me is still design, performance/capabilities, price. secondary would be things like FC...of cos if its comparing two almost equal vehicles where FC is 9km/L vs 13-14km/L, then the vast difference would make me reconsider things a bit..

If one stays in Tampines and work in Tuas, then yes, the FC would be quite a concern..otherwise, a 11km/L vs 13km/L is really not much of a worry for most..

For a typical car of 20,000km per year

12km/l means 1667 liters of petrol per year.

13km/l mean 1538 liters of petrol per year.

A difference of 129liters per year, @ $1.6 per liter, means a saving of $206 per year!

The savings can pay for the car yearly maintenance!

Though its not much, but still some 'spare' cash to do something!

Maybe buy the $10million TOTO or buy a new set of tyres every two years.

I guess its not about worrying...its about being money wise.

FC is important if you really travel a lot. Many cars in SGP can not even hit 20k km a year, why worry?

There are of cos savings, but to many, car is just not only as a form of transport..sometimes likings for certain items can nvr be replaced with practical considerations..

anyway, for cars tat travel 20,000km per yr, I dun think the yearly maintenance is only $200++...you should be looking in the region of $400 up to several hundreds for a normal range car for yearly maintenance..

Hi,

I agree that you can save $200+ a year.. so if you drive 10 years, you can save 2k plus lor.. right?

Now, the problem is that many good FC cars are a lot more expensive than their comparable counterparts..

For example, the legendary Jazz/fit 1.3 vs any other 1.3, the price is at least 8-10k more expensive lor...the money you save per year might not be able to make up for the premium pricing you pay at the the time of buying the car, somemore common practice is change car after 5 yrs.. And I m not even talking about Jap Vs Kor price here... even Jap vs Jap, Fit is also that much more expensive...

Just try to highlight a point that perhaps FC is an overated consideration? Esp when u r not doing sales.

When buying car, must be prepared to list one's criteria in a ranking order..example

1)Price

2)Good Design

3)Quality Bulit

4)Good FC....so on and so on

and if one finds a car that fulfills the first 3 criteria but not the last than must be prepared to do some tradeoff.
