Kids have their own minds (and if they are so easily swayed then they are useless anyway). My school and even my parents (and friends even) have been trying to convince me to be more nationalistic but it hasn't worked so far. You can't shield children from everything and everyone in this world. What you should do is teach them and allow them to have their own opinions. I see. I'm very sure about who I would protect - my family and some selected friends. If defecting in times of war provides the best opportunity for me to protect them, then so be it.
