Pisces69 6th Gear January 28, 2010 Share January 28, 2010 Btw what's the diff bet 200W and your model? ================ U looking for another GPS to replace your current 1? I see now Nokia mobile phones r coming with free GPS & maps. U know anything about these new deals? I considering getting a phone with GPS to use when I walking around. Any suggestions/recommendations?
Pisces69 6th Gear January 28, 2010 Share January 28, 2010 It's definitely a map problem and unless the problem is fixed in the next update, he will probably have to live with it. Another thing is whether there is a channel for customer to feedback to the company on any routing error so that they could fix it. I dun think other brands have the advantage of having a few versions of Sg and My maps like Garmin. I dun like to sound like a broken record, but with my Garmin, I have 5 versions of Sg, My and Bru map with me - the Garmin CN map of Sg, My and Bru and MSM NT map of Sg, My and Bru in my Nuvi 765 main memory and MFM map of Sg, My, Bru and Southern Thailand , MSM sgpsmapper version of Sg, My and Bru and Jerome's map of Sg and Johor in seperate SD cards. When I was last at Melaka, there was some routing problem with one map and promptly switched to another map. With other brands, you don't have this luxury. ================ The Shinco GM400 I am using also has several maps to choose for SG & East & West Msia. All the maps r in the SD card. U know anything about these new deals? I considering getting a phone with GPS to use when I walking around. Any suggestions/recommendations? Nokia maps are fine for traveling on foot, but definitely not for driving. Used it before and changed to a dedicated GPS.
Donut Supercharged January 29, 2010 Share January 29, 2010 can any one tell me if i get Garmin GPS from US directly, what's the difference from wat we can buy in SG? lets say i get 255W from US. Compared to SG model, what're the difference? No Junction View in US model??
Chilz Neutral Newbie January 29, 2010 Share January 29, 2010 Holux KNS. Few times kana go to wrong location. One example like, trying to go the Jurong country club, can't find the name in the searcn directory. Need to use postal code instead. When near Jorong expressway, guide me travel forward till Tuas instead and make a U-turn. After that, when reaching back again to Jurong expressway (opposite lane) for existing, the GPS told me that I have reach my destination. In actually fact, the country club is another 2 to 3 traffic light away from the expressway exist. Does anyone face the same problem? oh.. cheap things is no good, but doesn't mean expensive is good neither. Best is use window mobile. altho sound cheapo, but if use on ur expensive phone. It's juz great.
Axela72 5th Gear January 29, 2010 Share January 29, 2010 It's a map routing problem. Can give the exact location on where you are and where you are going ? Maybe the gps coords? Location is to Jurong country club. See wether yrs can search without postal code to locate this place. I have already update to another latest version but still facing same problem. The last time I intend to go to sunshine plaza. Guess where do i end up when the GPS has told me that I have reach my destination? SEAGATE The problem I am facing now is not all locations. only less than 20% of the time is not accuarate. Even if I want to complaint, they will probably told me they find nothing wrong with it. Don think they are going to sit in the car and test to drive from one point to the location where I am having problem to reach correctly

Don think they are going to sit in the car and test to drive from one point to the location where I am having problem to reach correctly I don't use Holux so I'm not sure. But using Garmin with malfreemaps, I can search for Jurong Country Club. It's address is 9 Science Centre Road, S 609078. When I do the routing, it correctly guide me from AYE to Jurong Town Hall Rd and turn left into Science Centre Rd. Using the same map, I can also search for Sunshine Plaza which is at 10 Princep Link. With Garmin mapsource application, I can do on the PC what I can do on the gps itself with respect to search and routing.
Mivec9 1st Gear January 29, 2010 Share January 29, 2010 what do u mean by firmware? what's the difference in terms of usability in SG? can i still use the US model in SG, straight out of box? firmware is the equivalent to operating system in a computer. something like different operating system versions i guess. usability shd be same except i kw certain localized models support the junction view for MY/SG. definitely US models can be used straight out of box, but u need a SG and/or MY map placed in the SD card, placed in the garmin directory. Kb27 Supersonic January 29, 2010 Share January 29, 2010 yes i notice such issue too. so i have some maps as spare too in case suddenly that version has a prob. i was going to KT with folks here, it showed "routing error"! With Garmin, I saw the "routing error" a couple of times. One was a map problem with mfm linking SG to MY. It was fixed in the next version. The other time I saw the "routing error" was due to overlapping maps. I have one Indonesia map and it overlap the SG/MY map, at the border around Straits of SG, around Batam island. Once I remove or ticked off the Indo map on the Garmin, the routing error disappears. So it all depends on the map itself. And if you have multiple maps with the same tiles, you are likely to get routing error, unless you only leave one map working, by ticking off the others. Whether your Garmin is purchased from US, Taiwan, Timbaktu or the most remote part of the world, it will work anywhere in the world as long as you have the map of the particular country that you are in. The difference between the 255W bought from the US and the localised (My/Sg version) is that your US set will not be able to use the Junction View (JCV) even if you have the latest MSM NT map installed. You can still navigate with this map but the JCV will not appear during navigation. The other difference is that the US set will come with the US map pre-installed whereas the localised set will have the Garmin CN map of My and Sg and MSM NT map of My, Sg and Bru. The firmware is just a software update in your device to improve on certain functions and at the same time to rectify any weakness, if any.

I was interested in that 1 cos I also now using Samsung & like it better than Nokia. Does the Omnia 2 have free use of GPS so it can b used like the GPS we have in our cars? If the price is good, I prefer Samsung to Nokia. Easier to use. I am considering the GPS phone as a back-up to my car GPS & also to use when I leave the car & walk around. Maybe yours is the older model & slower or different set-up? ↡ Advertisement
