Ravinged 5th Gear March 2, 2009 Share March 2, 2009 Not going to repeat, just read the letter yourself. http://www.asiaone.com/Motoring/Owners/Oth...302-125697.html The only 2 questions I have in my head now are... when someone writes with an argument like this, is he having a good and clear picture of OPC vs NORMAL population in Singapore? In the traffic jam we see everyday, how significant a role has OPC cars played? ↡ Advertisement

Shull Turbocharged March 2, 2009 Share March 2, 2009 (edited) nothing is free in this world..especially in Singapore.. if OPC rules are relaxed..definitely road tax gonna be increased..or decrease in the 17k upfront rebates..there's just no way i can see the rules relaxed without any reduction in monetary benefit from somewhere.. Cjgoh Neutral Newbie March 2, 2009 Share March 2, 2009 (edited) In my opinion, I think this OPC scheme is a no brainer. It is in existence because it makes money for the government. It's either you have enough funds and objectively enough reasons to own a full use vehiclel, or don't at all. This half-in half-out, black and white mixed gray area option, is because of additional revenues from a small pocket of motoring market they don't want to miss out. What you think? Furthermore, these red platers are often spotted speeding or driving dangerously even though they lack driving experience. The mentality of "I've paid to be out on the road at this time, therefore I am entitled my right of way.." is rampant among OPCs. Abolish it. Boyboy 1st Gear March 2, 2009 Share March 2, 2009 i think the reasons behind OPC are very sound. but some of the conditions are highly debatable. the key here is the enforcement and the means by which it is implemented. totally STUPID. then again, look at how certain situations are handled. actually, think of it as stupid people are everywhere. but once they find their way into gahmen/civil service, they try to stay there n leech on cos harder to find jobs outside. it's human nature, really. not saying that all pple in gahmen/politicians/civil servants are stupid.. so i hope my FELLOW civil servants dun take offence

The mentality of "I've paid to be out on the road at this time, therefore I am entitled my right of way.." is rampant among OPCs. Abolish it. I too drive OPC car and I too share the same feeling as U. There are other OPC drivers who speed and drive dangerously. Sometimes I wonder if they lack driving experience or just simply naive. Then again with normal plate, does it make them better drivers since they drive every day? Before I had a family, I would take MRT to work as my office is in the CBD.I dont believe in driving to CBD, paying all the ERP and parking and then drive back home. Those who are doing sales or working in outlying areas in Sg, I can understand the need to drive. Now that I have children, I got the OPC car to ferry them to extra classes and excursion over the weekend. Sometimes I think that OPC cars are look down becos they only drive out at night/weekends. I personally have been driving for a while and even driven in Malaysia and USA. Please give a thought or 2 to OPC car owners. They have the common ordinary cars base on needs, not wants.
