  1. This problem has been there for years, MOM has been keeping companies in watch list but does nothing about it except continue watching. Every year they report thousands of companies are added into their watch list, but what have they done about it other then watching?   2. Hi All, Just wanted to share the unfair treatment I received while at ICQ Woodlands yesterday. I arranged to pick up my new passport at ICA, Lavender at 2 PM because my old passport has ran out of pages before expiry. Went down to ICA at around 1:35 PM and got by passport at 1:45 PM. Efficient I must say. Told the counter officer to check on my new passport is OK before I collect them. She did the test in my presence and says that it is ok. After collection, me and my wife decided to head to JB to buy some mooncakes as Mid-Autumn Festival is two weeks from now. Drove up to ICQ, Woodlands and at the counter, I was told by the Officer that he was not able to clear my passport despite several tries. Told to wait and we waited for a good 15 minutes. Ask the officer again and he replied that he was unable to process my passport and to wait for an escort to escort me to the office where they will do the back end processing. Lan Lan, continue waiting and about 10 mins later, another officer came along and ask me to park my car. Of which I did and alighted, he asked for my car keys with both the passports of me and wife already with him. Followed him to a small office of which, there were a group of 3 already there before us. Was told to wait and to get a seat within the office which we again comply. Shortly, my wife ask to go to the washroom but was brushed aside by the officer at the door that we are to wait inside the office and not suppose to go anywhere else. This is when I start to fume up. I walked to the officer and asked if we have committed any crime, if we have not, why are we treated like criminals and deprive of our basic needs. I must admit that I raised my voice slightly. Upon hearing this, another officer intervened and ordered the officer to escort my wife to the rest room. At this point, I asked the Officer again, what is wrong with my passport. I have just collected my passport from ICA and show him my booking appointment slip together with my old passport. I also shared with him that at collection, the counter lady did a check on my new passport and confirm that it is already activated. If the computer systems at ICQ Woodlands cannot process my passport than it is very much an IT issue which is of no fault of mine. Even so, I rendered my co-operation to them fully but why am I and my wife being treated as if we were convicted criminals. He tried explaining to me that it is for security reasons and so on. I replied that I am fully appreciative of their concerns on security and even when my passport cannot be processed, it does not mean that I am a criminal or a terrorist. Even if they classified me as a suspect, they are not supposed to pass judgement on me until the point that I have been proven guilty. The officer subsequently relented and attended to my case first. At the end, we left that office before the group of 3 who have been in the office before we do. But I still buay song because not a single apology was offered despite the inconvenience created. Was really pissed off by this whole episode.
  3. I completely do not understand one thing... the rationale of carpark charges in certain areas Why do some HDB carparks still implement charges during Sundays when its intended for visiting? My mum... right beside a popular sub urban mall... free parking on sunday My mum-in-law... new HDB block.. about 800m away from nearest MRT station... Parking is chargeable... why??
  4. Summary. Employer fine $1 per every minute she late for work even after he give her allowances to start work at 9.30 instead of 9am and she still being frequent late for work. Than she lost an excel file she is working on and she was told to backup their work but she didn't and thus deduct 70% of her.. pay. Under contract terms of her 1yr contract, she need to pay back 3 months salary should she leave company in her contract terms. And employer refused to pay her whole month of march because she was absent without leave for 2 days. ........ So is employer being fair to employee in this incident that happened.

She believes that the accident involving the Ferrari driver that killed three is an isolated incident and it is unfair to blame or label all fast car drivers because of it. She is one of the women who make up the 20 per cent of Porsche owners. Miss Chen also believes that women are probably safer drivers than men because they tend to be more cautious while driving. Chairman of the Public Transport Council, Mr Gerard Ee, also told The New Paper that accidents involving supercars continue to remain low. He says most owners take good car of their cars probably because they are very expensive. He also remarked that he sometimes sees them driving very slowly on the road, just to enjoy the purring of the engines. Mr Lester Wong, 40, also feels that not all supercar owners be blamed because the Ferrari driver made an error. He also feels that true 'petrolheads' make the effort to know the limitations of their cars, sharing a simple calculation to gauge when to slow down while travelling at a fast speed and what gear to use. Both Mr Ng Chwee Ping, 37, and Mr Gary Goh, 30, feel that if one buys fast cars because one has the desire to speed, one should go to the tracks because one should always be responsible on public roads. Mr Ng also advises that one should do so to know the limits of the car and how to respond should something go wrong. He hits the race tracks in Malaysia four times a year with his friends. Of course, there are also those who buy fast cars merely as an investment, as Mr Leow Ju-Len, 36, motoring journalist and STOMP Star Blogger says.

Every year, on Aug 9, Singaporeans come together to celebrate National Day. The number of applications for National Day Parade (NDP) tickets overwhelmingly exceeds the seats available. Since 2003, the NDP e-balloting system has been used to allocate tickets to successful applicants on a random basis, to ensure that every applicant has an opportunity to join in the celebration at the NDP venue. Every NDP is unique. While we would like as many Singaporeans as possible to experience the parade, it would be unfair to deny those who were successful in previous years a chance to attend the nation's birthday celebration. Nonetheless, repeat ballot winners constitute a very small percentage of all successful applicants, and do not significantly reduce the chances of new applicants being allocated tickets. As we celebrate Loving Singapore, Our Home this year, those who are unable to secure tickets to the parade can join the Celebrations@The Bay, where complementary activities will be organised around the Marina Bay area.   7. Right now everyone is paying the same COE, the same road tax. I feel this is very unfair. If you look at the popular of true Singaporeans (born locally, not PR or migrants), our population has not grow much over the past decade. The bulk of the increase are caused by immigrants and foreigners! Thus, I feel that foreigners should be paying a higher COE and road tax compared to Singaporeans. Cause they are the ones who are contributing to our jams (I don't believe no foreigner don't own any cars here.....). Singapore roads for Singaporeans. Not aliens or xenomorphs! Charge them gao gao, just like gahment hospitals and clinics. Make them pay more ERP as well!!
  8. Ok already posted this in another thread but dont want to highjack it so here goes. Need some help from all bros here please. I was driving my lancer ex along Toa Payoh Lor 6 one busy morning towards PIE jurong. Upon reaching the cross junction linking to PIE, there is a filter lane. As usual I lined up behind a old ford focus wagon or hatchback waiting to filter out to the flyover linking to PIE. Ok I admit it was my fault. When I saw the ford moving past the white line and accelerated, I assumed that he was going to filter out so I followed on slowly to take his place, at the same time turned my head to concentrate on traffic on the right so that I could filter out too. That was when I heard a horn from the main road traffic and I realised that the ford in front of me could not make it out in time and he jammed braked. Too late, I kissed his backside. My car was a just before the white line while his car is halfway thru the white line. Next thing I know, Driver came out of the car to confront me, followed by the wife from the back seat. I too came out of the car to inspect the damage of their vehicle. I realised that they had a daughter in the backseat who was playing with her toys, not realising what had happened. At first both couple made a big Hoo Haa out of everything and seemed very very unhappy but after non stop of apologising the couple finally cooled down. But the wife was still going crazy and kept scolding non stop. Husband started to talk about what to do next. We exchanged name cards, took pictures, And I suggested that I brought his car to my workshop as I am a car salesman and I have good lobang on where to do up cars where workmanship is very good and as the damage was minimal and I did not want it to affect our respective insurances. The wife chut stun liao. Suddenly clung on to the door and say head very pain and cannot think straight. She then said that she hit her head on the front passenger seat headrest. She was sitting at the back with daughter. Then continued scolding. So finally after trying to be as courteous as I could, I managed to calm the couple down and we agreed that he follow me to my workshop and have the car fixed. He was to follow my car to a workshop in Alexandra. Halfway thru the journey, he stopped following me and disappeared. I called him up and he says better to leave it to insurance. I lan lan agreed. Called up my dad and told him what happened and he followed me to make an insurance report as it was necessary to do so within 24hrs. Also went to fix up my car. There was no dent, number plate dented slightly and a scratch on grill area. Repair for my car was $90 2 days later, I received a claim of $8860 !!! Worst of all. I received another letter today telling me that they are now claiming me $21110 Breakdown of claims is as such General damages $20000, Medical report fee $1050, Transportation $60. What should I do??? It is unfair that because of his bad judgement I had to foolishly commit such a mistake and I am not denying that I had fault in this, but $21000 is really way overboard. People like these will get their retributation one day. This incident has taught me a big lesson. What should be my next step guys? Attached are the pics. In the traffic jam we see everyday, how significant a role has OPC cars played?

Singaporean demoted in UN graft case Singapore (dpa) - Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs is mystified by by a United Nations decision to demote Assistant Secretary General Andrew Toh and fine him two months' salary, a spokesman said on Saturday. The 60-year-old UN career office from Singapore, who was once the UN's chief of procurement except for peacekeeping missions, learned of the demotion on Tuesday. In January last year, the UN put Toh on fully-paid leave after the UN's Procurement Task Force alleged that he had mismanaged the leasing of two Peruvian helicopters. The UN's Joint Disciplinary Committee exonerated Toh of the lesser charge of misleading the UN on the lease of the two helicopters. Toh "is like a pedestrian deliberately hit by a speeding car as he crosses the street, only to be cited for jaywalking as he lies injured, while the culprit goes unpunished," the spokesman said, adding that the decision is "unjust and unfair." "In more than 21 months of investigations, the UN was unable to find any evidence to substantiate spurious allegations of corruption or fraud against" Toh, the spokesman said. Separately, the Panel on Discrimination and Other Grievances ruled that Toh had been subject to "harassment, discrimination, and intimidation and that he should receive an apology, reinstatement, and restitution," the spokesman said. Both tribunals concluded that Toh had been denied due process and that his human rights had been violated. The disciplinary committee concluded that Toh failed to properly declare his financial assets in 2004 and 2005, and that he had refused to comply fully with the secretary general's directive to disclose all his financial information to the procurement task force. The committee recognized that Toh was reacting against harassment, discrimination and intimidation by the task force and recommended a supervisory reprimand for the non-disclosure of financial information and a sanction which would not go beyond censure. "For unknown reasons, the recommendations from the UN's own tribunals" were rejected, the spokesman said. Toh, who lives in the US state of Connecticut, has requested that the UN lift immunity on his accuser so that he can take legal action against him, but so far has been unsuccessful, the spokesman noted.   11. Read the posting about the smoking Optra and wonder if it is all true. The owner seems rather high handed to give the car poor rating because of one lemon incident. Even the dealer was not spared...they did their job to fix the car but got a 1 rating. Guess he wants a new vehicle altogether and because he did not get it....gave the poor rating. Just his luck to get a lemon like that ! I have driven my Optra for more than 2 years but so far no major incidents that would justify a major complaint to the dealer.
