hi, i noticed that my optra, which is 1.5 yrs old, has better fuel mileage lately. It happened suddenly after I have removed the spare tire and fill in shell petrol. maybe just coincident. I used to buy petrol from petronas station. me from malaysia. last time, 1 litre could go for about 7.6km and now 1 litre can go as high as 9.3km. 100% city driving. is it that the engine just ran in, which i heard so much about. The total mileage is only about 12000 km now. I don't use that car very often last time because of poor fuel mileage. Thank you Regards

Hi Gentlemen, Does anyone know if Optra's engine valve clearance need to be adjusted ? or is it auto adjusted by hydraulic ? Recently, during engine idling, I can hear a faint "tap tap" sound. Otherwise the car run smooth. Any advice from bro here?

Hi all, I'm considering the Optra Estate to cater for my growing family. The Estate (manual) looks like a good deal, but without ABS and airbags. The Estate (auto) has better equipment/features, but the pricing would be a little steep. I can top up a few k to get the Impreza TS wagon (available in auto only), although the TS wagon would be smaller. The other wagons in the market (like Megane Scenic, Opel Astra Wagon, Focus wagon, 320 wagon, V40) are too expensive to be considered. Are there any major problems with the Optra Estate (M)? I've read some "it's like that" problems with other models, hence I'm very concerned about the after-sales of the car. What is the FC like, and the build/safety of the car?

Hello Chervolet club members, I bought a 2nd hand Optra Magnum 1.6M, there are few doubts need solutions, 1. 5th gear, Speedometer 100km/h, tecometer at 3000rpm? My previous sunny 1.6M, 100km/h, at 2500rpm only 2. Aircon compressor always running, without compressor cut in/out as cabin temperature changing (is it normal for non-climate control AC?) 3. Aircon fan speed dropping as cabin temperature dropping, but fan speed no increasing while cabin temperature went up. 4. Radio was locked by code, where can get the unlock code? thanks

hello all, I just got 2nd 2008 optra1.6M, few questions need to check with here, a. what is the original optra wheels size? current car is 185/65/R14 b. How many km need to change timing belt? current mileage close to70k c. what is the servicing interval mileage, 10k or 5k? Thanks alot

Hey guys. Anyone of you have changed your timing belt? Mine is almost 80,000 km and I was told it is time to change. According to mechanic, there are few belts and water pump also need to change. I did check it out in Malaysia and it cost SGD$400. Any advice?

Hello! I'm new here. I've been looking around for a new car, and so far have narrowed my choices down to the Chevy Optra and Proton Waja. Both auto versions. I like the Optra for its solid build and ride, but rather slow pick up. The Waja is so so, rather noisy and the steering is rather heavy. Any comments on the Waja's reliability? The build and interior quality is better than the Gen-2. Gen-s feels rather plasticky and flimsy.

Just wanna check with all Optra (auto) owners: When gear is in "D" and you slowly move off from standstill by very, very gradually releasing your foot brake, I get this loud metal crunching noise. I brought this up to the SE at Ubi and Alexandra branch, and both got the standard "It's like that" response, claiming other Optras and other cars (with auto trans) have this same problem......"it's normal" they say. My golden question: Do you guys have this noise problem too?

Hi, after driving my optra for the last 5 years, (bought it in June 2005) it has not really given me any major problems. I thought it might be worthwhile to update you guys on the performance so far and share some tips and advice. Other than higher consumption (around 1 litre per Km with 40% city and 60% highway driving), the car holds well for me. I like the road holding and power. Going at 140 km/hr is a breeze but usually I travel around 100 km/hr in express way. changed battery twice over the 5 years and once for the tyres. Experience these little rattling noise from the dashboard every now and then since day one. This is due to the plastic materials which I don't think can be resolved unless you wish to remove them altogether. Last week, the engine heat up to above H and I have to tow the car to the workshop. According to the mechanic, the radiator is blocked and the thermostat faulty. After flushing and changing the faulty thermostat ($200), it looks fine to me. I was advised to change the timing belt and that will cost some $$$ To do it in Malaysia will cost ringgit $800. This is a 5 years old car and I am quite happy with it. I am in 2 mind if I should continue and go ahead with the maintenance or change to another car. Most Jap cars are designed to last 5 years and after that, parts will start to fail and you are expected to carry out regular replacements. I am not sure about Chev and their reliability. Any experts out there willing to share? I am thinking of changing to a conti car as they are built to last longer.

Anyone know if we can get cruise control device for Optra? It will be convenient for those that travel up north. The right hand side of the steering wheel seems to have a provision for this.

Posted this in TCS, but no reply, wonder if any bro here can help me. been changing the air-con filter of my optra estate with the one bought non original, which has no indication of which side is the air flow ( just insert into slot). But on tuesday, bought a pc of original optra air-con filter, when about to change, found that there is an arrow showing air flow direction, can somebody help me, by telling me which side is the air flow direction, is the air flow direction of the air-con left to right, or right to left? please note that it is air-con filter not air filter. Thank you many many.

When you shift the gearstick back from N to R, do you have to push the gearstick down first? Before I send my car to servicing.....R to N and N to R just shift along the goove. Now after servicing, from N to R, I have to push the gearstick downwards first before I can shift to R. Is this a safety feture or something not normal here?

Hi guys, Planning to downgrade from my OPC MPV to a normal sedan sedan car. I have listed either a 2006 Chev Optra or a 1992 Corona. Optra going for $29k while Corona going at $8000. Anyone can advise which ride should I go for, assuming I will down about $2k. Plan to drive for about 2 years before thinking of upgrading again to normal MPV, while saving up as my current MPV is about $550 a month. Exporter also taking in my ride at a very good price. Ride is approaching 5 years in November. Hope you guys can give a good advise on which one to go for.
