Kelpie 2nd Gear May 14, 2009 Share May 14, 2009 U r right, I've checked KM website and the drawing shows only the body but description is Overall. http://www.honda.com.sg/cars/civic_spec_18.htm Thank you very much for the verification . Hence, I don't trust overall width versus the "actual" width. What if the car comes with big and wide side mirror, kinda misleading when compared with its actual width. Again, if we want to pick bone, we also have to find out the actual cubic volume and dimension of the entire cabin. Regards, ↡ Advertisement
Kelpie 2nd Gear May 14, 2009 Share May 14, 2009 If I am not wrong, in Japan and Asia, width is taken without wing mirror, but the other way round for conti make. IMHO, the most accurate one is still the cubic volume of the interior if really want to find out the spaciouness of the car. Of course, design also play a part in making the car looks wider and more spacious than its actual number. Regards,

Take the FD Civic for example, despite a 55mm wider exterior than Corolla Axio, the interior width is only 30mm wider.
Kelpie 2nd Gear May 14, 2009 Share May 14, 2009 Actually body width cannot be used to judge interior width too, as some car have large fender / wheel arch, especially for Sport cars and SUV... You are right! Hence, the importance of knowing the cubic volume of the interior. The new Civic may be shortened in width, but, if they are still able to maintain the same cubic volume like the current FD, then it will still be a win win situation. Just hope that they don't use the short cut like other car manufacturers by building the car taller. Regards,

IMHO, space was wasted in creating a more streamline features and curvy feel in the entire FD cabin. In Axio, the deisgn is more upright an straighter. This is infact the most effcient use of space. It is all about design and packaging... Yes, I can see that but a stepwagon is so much taller and it is a MPV. Anyway, the current Civic bagged international acclaimed design award (interior and exterior) so hopefully, the standard will maintain if not better in the new Civic. Perhaps, by then, I will be changing to other made or model liao . As usual, I will be looking at the overall cubic volume to determine its spaciousness. Carbon82 Moderator May 14, 2009 Share May 14, 2009 (edited) The new Honda Insight has an external width of 1,695mm and internal width of 1,430mm, and most important of all, it is neither tall nor boxy / squarish... ;) Edited May 14, 2009 by Carbon82
Rtth84 1st Gear May 15, 2009 Share May 15, 2009 Just hope that they don't use the short cut like other car manufacturers by building the car taller. how does the "spaciousness" improve when they make a car taller instead of wider? I dun see how they can increase shoulder space by making the car taller

Gadgeter 2nd Gear May 15, 2009 Share May 15, 2009 What sort of English is this from the link? "Next Generation Honda Civic could be downsizing to 1,695 mm by width for pay less 5 number body tax and directly compete to Corolla and Tiida. Exterior Design will be Keep Concept."
