Chickensoup 1st Gear June 15, 2009 Author Share June 15, 2009 (edited) Dats true, my sis was choosing between a Samsung and Panasonic TV selling at the same price and chose Samsung after comparing the picture quality back to back...Samsung used to be a budget brand but has now beaten the Japanese brand...anything can happen and Kia and Hyundai has already beaten many Jap brands in golbal sales. 2008 ranking below I also followed your sister's thinking and bought a Samsung Plasma TV. I regret not buying a Japanese brand. This Samsung TV is only one year old and it will off by itself and then on again by itself with a split second. You can hear it switch off and on. The picture will just freeze for a split second and continue. It is very difficult to get a technician to come because sometimes it happen but not always. One week 2 or 3 times. Previous Toshiba TV is still working perfectly after 7 years. Now I shift it to my bedroom. I hope it spoil so I can change TV but my patience ran out, Bought Samsung for living room. Just call Samsung service centre and complain. They will still send ppl down to see/repair. I had intermitten problems with my LCD TV and they took it back for 1 week and gave me a loan set. They changed the LCD panel and control board. So it's like a new TV with just my old casing. I give a good rating
Bismarck Turbocharged June 15, 2009 Share June 15, 2009 Samsung LCD TV is good and top selling brand but in the end I still choose Sony. Even when Courts were having sales few months back I bought Toshiba for my mum's room instead of Samsung because the price offer was more attractive. Samsung LCD is well known for its glossy stylish design and panel but still I doubt its reliability. I am currently using LG fridge bought a few years back and it is rather loud and not that energy efficient and I am planning to change to Mitsubishi, which was the brand before my family change to LG, and we use it for 20 years! Even aircon I prefer to use Mitsubishi instead of LG, which according to some report LG won some award for best aircon or something like that. I drove a Getz before for a few months and there are a few other aspect of the car I dont really like, like for example the lack of power in overtaking. It could because it is auto and I am sure manual Getz will be much better. But Getz do give me the feeling that it is quite reliable. Kia too, Rio, since I have friends who drove it for 7,8 years before they traded it. I have never hear them complain about maintenance and reliability issue and always see them driving it regularly day in and out without failed. So yes Korean brands have come of age but they are still some way to go before they really "lead" the field and make people think "buy Korean" 1st all the time. Samsung LCD TV indeed is good and leading the field for a few years but the perception people have(like me for example) is still Japan is better. It is not that people like me dont want to give chance to them(which I did), but in the end there are some disappointments here and there which reduce our impression and the desire to give them a chance. Japan brand too have its own disappointments, like those MIT cars. But all in all, Japan brand still give the impression that it is more reliable, which is what the majority care more than anything. Like Avante I have used washing machine which is MIJ, it will get spoilt immediately around 5 years after the warranty period and I spend almost double the price the Samsung Washing Machine so why spend so much money for a MIJ device which have a lifespan. Is yours double the price for the same specs? The lifespan of a unit sometimes also depends on luck, my MIJ washing machine has lasted for 7 yrs still running.
