Saw one interesting show about 3 modified cars each with almost similar power to weight ratio competing with each other on track, mud fields and various kind of bends. These are I4(lowest spec), V6 and V8 NAs. Who won? the I4. Utilmately a lighter car with a better skilled driver is the key to victory.

Agreed?

Are you referring to Thunder Races shown last night? If that was the show, the V8 made by the Blue Team was not firing on all cylinders as mentioned by the commentator and it was super nose heavy, it couldn't handle at all.

The I4 and V6 was neck to neck through the entire race.

Interesting show nevertheless...

The point of a V12 is the smooth-as-a-baby's-ass delivery of power. You can make some real powerful I4s or IL6s, but none of those engines will ever suit a car like the Maybach. Nor will the I4 be able to produce the kind of sound that an italian V8 could on the expressway. Usually a lighter car with a better driver will win a race. But the car with the V8 will enjoy the sprint equally well if not more. Some people would rather have a 3.5 litre ICE than a 2 litre 600bhp engine. :)

v10 delivers in dakar 2009:

Mechanicals

The V10 is can be considered to be constructed by mating two even firing straight-5 engines together. The straight 5 engine shows first and second order rocking motion. Here it should be assumed that the crankshaft with low second order vibration is used and the first order is balanced by a balance shaft. By mating the straight-5 banks at 90 degrees and using 5 throws the balance shafts balance each other and become obsolete. The firing sequence is odd (BMW M5, Dodge Viper). Using an 18
