i use it no problems. I also download ebooks onto it and read during lunchtime. Mainly use the functions like web browsing (screen is kind small), sms, MS word, excel, calculator, phone (of course), camera and video (but these 2 functions are not fantastic), microphone to record meetings for minutes purposes - this function is quite good, alarm clock - also great, can have multiple alarms, calender to keep track of appointments, notes for quick notes, GPS and nokia maps - very useful, PDF reader, sync with home pc for contacts and calender.

have been using the Predecessor E61i and until today havent changed to the E71i

i feel that the screen is abit small although it allows the phone to be slimmer and sleeker.

Maybe i should just get one. M1 offer it to me for $18. but i need to extend contract and pay penalty of $100. so all in $118.

guess its a matter of time but now still a bit lazy as my E61i still working great.

But both cannot fight (smell no smoke) when compared to the iPhone 3G which is my main phone now.

New 3GS gonna be luanch soon so wait abit and compare.

I think you need to tune your settings. The GPS will try to go online to download latest google maps. Depends on the way your connection method is set, it can try and search for GPRS connection, wifi connection, bluetooth connection, etc.

I have set mine to connect thru wifi only. So if within wifi range it will connect thru the wifi. If out of wifi range, I shall not go online - as GPRS charges are ridiculously expensive.

The connection to GPS satellites is always present - but you need line of sight. When under overhead cover or in building, the GPS satellite may not connect. Once you go to open space, the GPS antenna works quite fast and well, and within a few seconds you will estab signal with GPS sats, and triangulate your present position (indicated by a red dot on the screen). This will track your movement as long as your phone is not greatly blocked. Coupled with the downloaded google maps, you can track your progress any where in the world!! I just recently used the GPS in Australia as well!

As for Nokia maps - this is a paid service - so I never bother to use it. After all Google maps is FREE!!

Weird, I bought the iPhone 3G when it was launched, used it for less than a week, and chucked it in my bedside drawer. Now I only use it to check email when I'm in bed.

Battery life sucks, no hardware keyboard, useless bluetooth, lousy GPS.... Just can't get used to it. Went back to E71.

E71 is a excellent phone. for me.

1. Use wifi for web browsing - many alternative browers skyfire , opera mini

2. Use sip client to make voip phone calls ( with wifi ) great for overseas trips and free calls

3. Used it to listen music, podcast

4. Plays h.264 videos

5. GPS very useful on road trips, use app sportstracker to tracking walks on maps and record distance travelled

6. imap email client that can connects to gmail or any other imap servers

7. Runs java apps ( iphone can't do this )

8. Native google apps - youtube, gmail, google maps, google calendar

9. Runs multiple applications at the same time ( iphone can't do this ). Example

a. Listen to podcast.

b. Client sms in ask help to configure their server

c. Send details in email

d. Use mail client to get email

e. Use java ssh client to remote connect to server.

f. finishup write email to client

d. podcast playing in the background all the time.

10 Great battery life

11 ovi app store

12 ovi sync ( sync contacts, appt .... )

13. Slim, relatively light and a great casing.

14 loud speaker

Negatives:

1. stupid 2.5mm headphone jack

2. keyboard is a bit cramp have to get used to it

3. when using usb to transfer files after it is completed. sometimes the memory get lock down and no application can use it have to power off and on the phone.

4. It's a Nokia so sometimes it locks up.

There is an issue - when taking photos the camera sound is very loud. When plug the earphone in the sound is silenced!!!

I am looking for a 2.5mm spare jack so that I can keep ot plugged in to cancel the sound!
