If i am not wrong, Q** prefix are used on vehicles registered by gahment ministries/stat board. And they have been used previously on cars which are destined for rental purposes..

previous 'Q' b4 the normal alphabets were used by company cars...

such as QBA...those were company plates..

how about those plates start with "S" ?

Some with prefix S (also with alphabet at the end) could also be from Malaysia. Surprised to see a few in gombak town when I had lunch there. First thought they were stolen cars!!!

notice.. SBA to SBZ took about 10 years, SCA to SCZ about 7 years..then SD*, SF* and SG* just went BOOM!!!! exponential growth..

the "BOOM" is partly due to the relax ruling on the ownership of number plate. You can choose to bid new plate for old car so suddenly the float gate open n LTA is smiling to the bank.

noe some one who has a SW plate..realli realli old [sweatdrop]

Single "S" plates looked really cool. Easily 3 characters in all: S 3 X

maybe in the 1960s no check digits ... whoa [gorgeous]

There are a good number of 'S' series plates(originally Singapore registered) ,with an alphabet ending,in Malaysia and they are registered in Malaysia as well. These are plates from the pre-separation days. After separation, they went their separate ways to their respective state and brought the number with them. All they had to do was register it with the state.

Sm is which year?

I have not come across such old records ... but it is 12 letters before SZ (incidentally, I recalled that SZ was used for rental cars ... but I am not 100% sure). So if EC is 1973, SM must be 1958 and earlier based on one series per year, probably much earlier since there should be fewer cars back then.

I'm sure the Old-timers know about this. The prefix SGA and SGB were once used by old Singapore goods vehicles in the 60s. I was surprised that LTA released the SGA and SGB prefix. "SG" series were allocated to goods vehicles, followed by "SGA" then "SGB". The subsequent goods vehicles were registered as "GC".

I once saw an old "SGA" plate lorry with a wooden bed in Sungei Kadut Industrial in 2002-2003. The lorry is nowhere to be seen since then.
