Powerhouse Clutched August 17, 2009 Share August 17, 2009 Hi to All, Can anyone advise on the difference in using the radiator cap pressure? My Vios's stock radiator cap pressure is 0.8bar. Is there any benefits/problems, if I change to 1 BAR or even 1.3 BAR? Thanks ↡ Advertisement
Trex101 3rd Gear August 17, 2009 Share August 17, 2009 Hi to All, Can anyone advise on the difference in using the radiator cap pressure? My Vios's stock radiator cap pressure is 0.8bar. Is there any benefits/problems, if I change to 1 BAR or even 1.3 BAR? Thanks Increasing the cap pressure will increase the boiling point of the coolant but too high a pressure might cause the undue stress on the radiator and cause premature rupture. Dice 3rd Gear August 17, 2009 Share August 17, 2009 stress also will be to stock radiator rubber hoses, so if you changing, be sure to change to silicone rad hoses as well... add some color to your engine bay too ;)
Yeobh 4th Gear August 17, 2009 Share August 17, 2009 It's best to do pressure test on the cooling system up to the desired pressure before replacing with the stock cap.
Kb27 Supersonic August 17, 2009 Share August 17, 2009 I changed my stock from 0.9 to 1.1, bcoz I bought wrongly. Not a lot, but bcoz my heater hose had a minor leak, the coolant keep leaking away. I decided to put back to 0.9 and tightened up the hose with a new clamp. So far it appears ok. There's no gain to overpressurizing your cooling system. You only increase the chances of stressing other parts.
Kyojin 1st Gear August 17, 2009 Share August 17, 2009 Hi to All, Can anyone advise on the difference in using the radiator cap pressure? My Vios's stock radiator cap pressure is 0.8bar. Is there any benefits/problems, if I change to 1 BAR or even 1.3 BAR? Thanks there are more disadvantages than benefits really, especially if you entire system is not uprated at the same time. you will be putting more stress on the cooling system (pump, thermostat, hoses). you don't really need high pressure rating unless you are driving a track car that needs better cooling due to the high temp operations.
