Yes, do the burn test.

But don't burn the seats directly else the foam under the leather might melt from the heat.

Try to flip the leather over and pull out a few fibers (if no fibers, confirm fake). Burn those fibers. If they melt and turn into lumps of hard stuff (like what you get when you burn plastic), then your leather is fake.

Actually genuine leather can be distinguished by its smell.

Also, never NEVER trust what the salesman does (burning the leather). Genuine leather will still burn!

Take of example deforestation fires. Does that mean elephants do not need to run away from it?

Make sense? [flowerface]

The only difference is that when genuine leather burns, the flame ceases when the source of fire

is removed. PVC will bubble up and your can hear "sparkles", though very soft to the ear.

Most of the cars will use synthethis leather or commonly known as "PVC Leather" on car seats.

But not that it is cheaper, BMWs and Merz also using simply because it can withstand the conditions in the car better, under high heat when you park in the sun, etc.

Real Pure leathers as used in those high end sofas will be very hard to maintain in Singapore weathers. Unless you want to spend time conditioning the leather seats every week with conditioners.

These days you can purchase 'leather fragrance' spray solutions to use to simulate leather smells.

Your analogy about the elephants in a forest fire very funny. Can it be that elephants run from fire because it is hot and they don't want to die?

For those intending to try the 'burn test' on leather, please do not try it on their Louis Vuitton Monogram bags. These are canvas, NOT leather!

press the leather against the cushion.

if it got "wrinkles"=real.

if no "wrinkles"=fake.

or use your thumb and index finger to lift up a small part of the leather and rub the innerside to feel.

if rough=real.

if not much friction=fake.

another traditional way is to feel the heat.

usually leather are more cooling.

Yes, most cars use PVC leather for Spore context, mainly due to being squeezed too hard by cust in e beginning until it became a norm now.

AFAIK, TC uses real leather for e seats and PVC for e back (aka e parts u dun lie on). Not sure which other AD does tat but definitely it cant be full leather for 500 bucks. (To TS: u might wan to check whether urs is half-half anot).

True, a lot of work to maintain full leather, not many ppl willing to put in e effort for cars.

this type are known as half leather.

most people prefer leather is because of its coolness which means it won't get hot too easily especially after sitting for a long period of time that's why most of the seats are only half leather because the rear we don't sit on it.

maybe RR and Bentley are using full leather for status purpose.
