Do find out more b4 buying a GH3, it under power.

 

I've got the chance to drive this the 1.5L model for 5 days. Driving a manual version and find it very underpowered. Need to step hard on the gas and rev in order to get the same level of acceleration in my mazda 2. In the end, the FC shot up like a rocket... around 10km/L !!!

Lancer GLX is good la... Esp the stock acceleration and handling. The 4G18 is also bullet-proof

Agree the Impreza 1.5R cannot touch the Lancer GLX on acceleration.

Besides, the SOHC 4G18 engine develops its max torque at a much lower RPM.

Its cast-iron engine block is superb - really 'old-school' and bullet proof will probably last a life time.

 

However, I was not referring to how much faster the Lancer can go (vs the Impreza).

I was referring to how much faster one can do gear changes, while accelerating at WOT, compared to the somewhat lethargic Impreza .....

Is it due to the Subaru's longer clutch travel?, higher biting point?, taller gear ratio? or a combination of all 3 and more? I don't really know. But it really sucks big time!

 

The Impreza 1.5R Manual just does not give me a continuously-smooth hand-leg motion, in changing up gears quickly, from 1 to 5.

 

p.s For superb hand-leg coordination on manual gears, I still love my old Alfa, VW and Civic - all of them manuals. Old school.

Anyways, the Forte manual recently up price already - now $45K for entry-level.

For the $4K difference (nia), the final decision IMHO, is a no brainer.

 

The Forte's interior quality really CMI (IMHO).

Yes, the paper figures speak for themselves:

 

Mitsubishi Lancer GLX Manual: 0-100 in 10.7 secs.

Subaru Impreza 1.5R Manual: 0-100 in 13.2 secs.

 

Auto tranny numbers are about 1-2 secs longer for each.

Subaru always mention abt AWD handling even on the base Impreza.

 

Why the hell one needs 4WD no a car with so low power/weight ratio when the CTR "only" FWD? I am very very very sure the CTR can grip better than the Impreza in and out of corners

But, too many Impreza buang also even with AWD. Could be giving too much confidence to drivers and drivers pushed too hard over the limit of tyres.

 

Cheap, predictable handling will be FWD. For pure driving enjoyment will be RWD.

$39K is for the 1.5R Impreza Manual, OPC. Read the fine prints.

 

Before you get all excited, I'd suggest you go for a test drive.

 

Try this: From stop, try accelerating through the manual gears briskly, from 1 to 5. See how fast you can change up the gears, coordinating with your left and right feet. There is something lethargic about the Subaru's manual gear shift.

 

Now, immediately go across to Mitsubishi and test drive the Lancer GLX Manual (their lowest-cost, entry-level Lancer model).

That car is at least $8K lower than the Subaru.

 

Go do the same thing: Accelerate briskly, from gears 1 to 5. Observe how much faster you can coordinate your gear shifts, together with your feet shifts.

 

Enuf said.

 

IMHO, Mitsubishi has transferred a lot of their Evo rally know-how to the Lancer, from hydraulic power steering, long-travel rear multi-link suspensions, handling (albeit FWD only, with its inherent limitations) and of course, optimized gear shifts.

 

Subaru somehow kept their rally know-how to their WRX/STIs, period. I also don't like the feel of the Impreza's over-assisted and imprecise power steering - believe its electric.

in spore type of roads, there is no need for AWD. it makes the car heavy and result in poor FC.

No doubt the Forte is a better buy, but the initial batch have many minor faults still yet to be solved...

How about comparing unfairly - Impreza 1.5R manual AWD vs Daihatsu Terios 1.5 manual AWD (abielt unfairly against Terios since it's a SUV)? I think Terios pick up is much better than Impreza though stability Impreza wins hands down.
