Best auto transmission system

ZF is the most responsive i've tried so far; on the BMW and i believe the MINI too.

 

I believe my car is on the aisin.... really slow response

 

if we are talking about torque converter, ZF auto has fantastic response time

My friend Nissan Latio CVT gearbox up the lorry after 3 years and he was quoted S$10K+ for a complete set of new gearbox.

 

Sounds like CVT type of auto transmission doesn't seems to be reliable ? Maybe it's one isolated case.

Actually CVT transmission isn't too bad for providing smooth gear changes...just don't put more than 280Nm of torque or it'll snap. I particularly liked the CVT in the Sylphy gave a very comfortable ride especially for long journeys up North.

My preference is for non-CVT, normal autotransmission but with +/- capability. No. of gearing ratio, minimum 5 speed for better fuel economy. (for cruising)

chevrolet optra 1.8L use ZF, 1.6L use Aisin.

 

There are basically three types of auto transmissions, each with their strength and weaknesses

 

a) Auto with torque convertor (modern design have lockup plate to improve efficeincy)

b) DSG

c) CVT

 

There is no best, each has it's purpose depending on the need of the Design Engineer.

e.g, VW passat use normal 6-speed auto transmission becos, smoothness is desire.

and CVT is actually very fuel efficient.
