I hope the judge gives a stiff sentence. It's definitely necessary to send out a stern message else there will be more and more people who will turn our charity works into a circus! And we'll be the fools funding the circus! The sad thing is, those people in need of charity assistance will ultimately be the ones who suffer.

Something needs to be done to revamp our charity works. We need people with integrity and who will not be corrupted by $. Maybe get someone reputable and rich to lead since he's already rich and has a reputation at stake? But then, you never know what $ can do to a man......

problem is getting them to come out and do this job. they might not have time one. the best thing is to have regular check on those charity company. make it complusary to have yearly audit by government send agent.

Yeah. Especially when TT Durai was sentenced to 3 months jail but left it in less than 3 months.

hi, all

this is the FACT!!!

the degree of sentences will depend on how much $ & infos Ming Yi is willing to surrender. Besides his $$$, this includes his cahoot parties, i.e. local & overseas counterparts and businessmen involved...... there are actually 'more than meets the eye'....

its also very similar to TT Durai - it was his agreements of what he'd surrender, & that's including what he should & should not reveal, what he can & cannot counter-sue e.g. Executive Committees' involvements etc...... so its lucky for him as there is a 'conspiracy theory', that explains his <3 months....

btw, recently i went to a posh house located at holland road for friend's gathering. the home owner points to the road beside her house and told me over a red wine, that one of those big houses there, belongs to Ming Yi. They see him every now and then.

I was thinking, that must worth easily over 2 million bucks!

Not only 2 mil ba. Heard there's some houses there selling for easily 4 mil n above.

FORMER Ren Ci Hospital founder Ming Yi was jailed 10 months on Saturday, while his former personal assistant, Raymond Yeung, was jailed for 9 months on charges over an unauthorised loan from the charity's funds to his aide in 2004.

The two were found guilty on Oct 7.

Ming Yi, 47, was convicted on four charges, two of them jointly with Yeung, 34.

The Buddhist monk was accused of having supposedly made an unauthorised loan of $50,000 on May 17, 2004. The loan was allegedly made to the Mandala Buddhist Cultural Centre but it was not reflected in Mandala's financial records.

Ming Yi and Yeung also faced one charge each of giving false information to the Commissioner of Charities (COC) in a letter supposedly from a China artefacts company.

The other two charges that Ming Yi faced were for misappropriating Ren Ci's funds by approving the loan and lying to the COC in an oral statement about it.
