Redstorm 1st Gear June 30, 2010 Share June 30, 2010 hong lim market. that time, quite some years back, my gf and i went to try the prawn noodles... the stall is located near the link bridge to chinatown point there both of us tasted it it was quite good however, after one hour, we both felt uncomfortable and worse, my gf had a major headache... i think she had too much of the fried ''zhu you zhai'' bits added into her soup. Ended up sick for 2 days... she swore never to eat prawn noodles again.. haaha Some of those prawn noodle stalls were previously operating road side hawker stalls along Hokkien St and later relocated to the present location sometime in the late 60s or early 70s. Back at Hokkien St then, these stalls were very popular with late night diners especially towkays, tai tai, carbaret girls, etc. who came in their big Merz, BMWs, etc. Somehow their popularity dropped after they shifted to Hong Lim market. Normal only. There is a nice one at Sixth Avenue. Another near the Joo Chiat Area. About $5. Call "da xia mian" or something.

Zacxaviqer 1st Gear July 1, 2010 Share July 1, 2010 Anyone tried the Ren Ren Da Xia Mian in Jalan Besar?? Just opposit Jalan Besar stadium. The pork rib is braised and the the prawn are rather huge. I especially like their soup. Very tasty. I also frequent the East Coast Rd, Beach Rd prawn noodle. Very nice. I saw quite a few celab there while eating. I used to think that the Whitely prawn noodle in Old airport is nice but seems like the standard has drop. The soup taste a bit sweetish instead... Used to be my fave out of the 3. I tried the 1 in Lavendar food court. The one with claypot but that was just so so. Nothing to shout about. Damn, I'm hungry now
