Would u buy a tissue paper?

As i overheard the radio today,there was this topic;as above,where some elderly or pple with disability selling tissue paper which cost about a $ for 3.As for myself,i never reject anyone who came over to sell me.even sometimes when there are 2 or 3 different individuals came to approach me.In my car,when i open the compartment,its full of tissue paper .But to me,im ok with it as i thought that im using it and also doing a good deed,maybe for me only .what saddens me is that most pple who dun want to buy from them is that u can get it cheaper from supermarket which i agree.but these tissue sellers are trying to earn a living and not begging for $.or worst,i have seen some pple ask them to get lost especially in hawker centres.i never expect all pple to buy from them but juz wanted to hear what are the reasons not to buy from them.

I agree with you. Some of my overseas friends said at least they are selling tissue, rather than those beggars or homeless people u see in other countries.

I disagree. If they are selling above the market price, then they are trying to prey on your sympathy and that is no different from begging.

 

This is similar to the numerous complains against MLM companies that have a dummy product. In this case, the dummy product is the tissue paper.

agree very much with u. every couple of months i bring all the tissue to office and distribute.

one thing to note, they r peddling something we dont want/need (just like banks who keep calling you to take loan/cc when u dont need) and best of all, u disturb us while we are eating!

u think its easy to walk around with a big plastic bag full of tissues, going around asking pple to buy tissue???

 

Think of it as you just help someone. even if he is just preying on your sympathy, you know you have just help someone rather to missing out on someone who deserve help..

 

moreover, its only $1. If its still well within our capacity, why not stretch your helping hand?

Everyone have their own stand and i won't say that you are wrong.

 

Just wanna bring this to you that our society is not as graceful as people thought. a lot of elderly/disabled can't find a job. no one want to employ them. Even if they employ them, how much are they paying them a month?! $500? not even enough for transport and food..

 

and some of them actually have dependents who needs them to take care of...

 

and at least they are selling something here, not begging money off us...

The reason they are selling 3 for a dollar or rather at a price above the market selling price is because they can only get the tissue paper from supermarkets who sell them at the price that we all get them at. If they sell u back at the same price, it is not a living to them anymore..moreover, they are not exorbhitant in their profit. Think abt it, if u go coffeeshop and don't have tissue paper, buying from the drinks stall also cost 30cents each...so...3 for a dollar only comes to 33.3333cents each. Their profit is? 10%?

 

If u buy shampoo from guardian, it costs 18 bucks, but if u buy from chinatown, amk, toa payoh? It costs 8 bucks...does this mean that guardian is a beggar?

aiyahh why compare them to those doing MLM...these are disabled & old ppl...jz help lah...dun wan jz turn down politely. They dun force U unlike scheming MLM

I think everyone has their own opinion.doesnt mean u dun buy from them u r wrong.but to say that the things are overprice is a bit too harsh i personally find.they need profit too.by earning 30 cents to 40 cents for profit is not a lot as we can see that not everyone buy from them .anyway,it really open my eyes here and listening reasons from different individuals.feel free to contribute.

i dont buy coz i dont need it. that doesnt mean i dont do any charities. i do donate to orgs like ASD.

There has been reports that some of these tissue sellers are operated by syndicates.

 

A few got stomped ... 1 tissue seller was spotted at Bugis shopping ctr eating sushi for dinner ... another was seen being ferried to sell tissue in a mercs

well.. i have to admit there are really loads of black sheeps that spoilt the market. My stand is simple. Got hands and legs, not old, then i will not HELP at all..
