Berncsp76 6th Gear September 23, 2010 Share September 23, 2010 It usually done on 出山which is like in the middle of the day. But if you are interested, I can help you to arrange one for your viewing pleasure. haha bro...出山is in Hokkien yeah? 出殡is the correct word My dad funeral also have the military band arranged by Spore Casket. After that still have to give angbao to them for blessing. Oh ya, I remember I had to walk to the main road without shoes/slippers but white socks and wait for the hearse to come out, coz I am the only son of the house. Does all dialect groups practise this way? ↡ Advertisement
Adrianli Hypersonic September 24, 2010 Share September 24, 2010 I think nowadays its all package deal already. The funeral director/planner will tell the next of kin wat to do n so on. Everything is done by the planner, just follow their instructions.

The band is provided by the deceased's son-in-law, if never see means no son-in-law.
Shtpp Neutral Newbie September 24, 2010 Share September 24, 2010 i thot the undertakers will place the deceased into the body bag with handles for them to hold onto....this is being done on my grandma when she passed away. the undertakes then carried the body bag like a stretcher and take the lift down...as for your case, no body bag, no nothing...quite shocking I rem last time my grandma was wrapped with the body bag & carried by all the grandsons from 7th storey via staircase to ground floor. Wonder how come the funeral parlour assistance never helped. only jagar infront, maybe to stop any people pass-by while we carrying the body. Really cannot image, people might bumped into the body without any means of cover in the lift. Chances can be quite high nowasday as more & more HDB lifts have lift landing on every floor, it's quite impossible to send so many men to jagar on the every floor lift entrance... think back can be quite scary... Same for my grandma back then, my dad and his brothers and me carried her down the stairs from 11th storey. I think if there's enough ppl in the family most prob will b family members carry to show sincerity lah (quite lonely for deceased to take the lift down all alone). If the unit too high or not enough ppl in family to carry then most prob via lift.
Bluepica 4th Gear September 24, 2010 Share September 24, 2010 Why did they send the deceased down via lift alone???
Good-Carbuyer 1st Gear September 24, 2010 Share September 24, 2010 This one power. Did he said no room in lift for a lift attendant, so corpse (DIY) press 1st storey button and off corpse went?
Good-Carbuyer 1st Gear September 24, 2010 Share September 24, 2010 (edited) having a discussion on this with non-chinese colleagues (slow day today).... how is the body brought down from the apartment to the ground floor? (obviously for cases of natural death at home). some said the body is placed seated in a lift, alone and sent down. other family members wait downstairs to collect. is this true? Was told a sister's neighbour had to be brought down by crane after breaking down wall (oversized for lift/staircase). Cremation not possible due to his size (like sumo-wrestler) No mention if forklift was used to deliver the casket Edited September 24, 2010 by Good-Carbuyer ↡ Advertisement
